Car Dying After Stressed, Restarts Immediately In Neutral, Gas Smell In Oil, by missyq: 4:34am On Nov 23, 2014 |
OK help! I don't know much about cars but am learning. About a year ago I bought a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 180,000 miles (it's now almost 200,00). In the last week it has started to cut off when I go up an incline but only after I take my foot of the gas. It starts back up in neutral as Im driving it. I can go through winding hills as long as Im giving it gas Tonight I tried revving it in park in my driveway and quickly took my foot off the gas and it died. Started up fine right after, but this time slowly/gradually eased off the gas (again after revving) , and it didn't die. I do hear a little ticking noise about every 10-15 seconds, but no knocking when idling and no obvious noises while driving. Engine seems more strained lately but will go to above highway speeds. Its gotten markedly colder (weather wise) since this has started and I've noticed white/gray smoke from exhaust. I don't want to put too much money into this because I just saw its being recalled by Chrysler because of gas tank being dangerous (if rear ended. It's my only car and need to get to work. Sorry so long, but wanted to be detailed. Thanks!! |

Where are you? Do you have a CEL on? If you have a check engine light scan it first. When was the last time you did a tune-up? Post several pic of the engine |
