I hope the lady listen to you Hauwa but if she refuse to listen it's all on her and I hope she will have the nerves to tell her baby someday that she has to cheat the government by using someone else identity to pay for the baby's medical bill.It is much better for you to give birth in the UK where you are legal than come here and find out the hard way.medical bills in America is a big issue but alot of naijas won't tell you the truth but whatever you want to do it's all on you.
KayUsa-Get off your high horse; who said anything about using someone else identity; I had stated that am looking to pay; from information i have gotten here; i have been able to contact some hospitals charging in the region of $5-9K; and is no where near the $20k u r quoting to have paid; of which am assuming was paid by ur insurance; do have a medical insurance here which covers me in the US due to the nature of my job; but maternity is not covered as it is deemed as a pre-existing condition. So am looking to pay for giving birth to my child; and i know that prices vary across different states; hence the reason for the post.

I read your earlier post and i was amazed by your claim, please quit giving false information if you don't know what you are talking about. As i said in my ealier post, no hospital will release your medical bill or information to a third party or an embassy. Unless they wanna be sued.

@Sharpmove

What kind of insurance is that? They consider birth a pre-condition?? Wow, that must be a really cheap insurance company. Like i said earlier, go to a county hospital in any states and you can get a very reduced rate and quality service. Goodluck.
Re: I Want To Give Birth In Us by ajileko: 12:27am On Dec 16, 2008
@Shinatu
You are very wrong. Hospitals here in the States do ask for proof of residency/citizenship, income, current address if you don't have medical insurance before you can be treated. Unless of course you are unconscious or in a bad shape. So don't confuse people with your statements about no hospital do this, no hospital do that. And yes, hospital will release your financial information to the INS if you received public aid while in the States
Re: I Want To Give Birth In Us by kayusa: 3:08am On Dec 16, 2008
Thanks Ajileko,
Let her believe whatever she want to believe.I really don't give a heck about you or your problem.I will only say what I know it does not matter if you agree with me or not I reside in the states and I work for the federal government.I am not ready to go into details of how my bill was 20K you have all year round to figure that out.it's all on you but know that this is America and not England.You need to have an insurance to pay and it will cost you allot as a foreigner that is the bottom line nobody is saying you are going to use someone else identity you should have read through the lines if you don't use glasses the only reason why i said that is becos alot of Nigerians come here and don't tell ppl the truth but you will find out when you come here and probably you may have the nerves to tell the baby the truth someday.

Good luck grin

I am really getting confused , I had to go back to my posts to see  where I mentioned anything contrary to what you have said here, are you sure you are not holding me responsible for the statements in other people's posts which I inserted as quotes in my posts? If I remember correctly, it iwas Sweet T who mentioned one or two things (according to her) that hospitals will never do. I stated that making use of Medicaid and not paying your hospital bill may affect your records with immigration and prevent you from getting your US visa renewed(in Nigeria). Sweet T says no hospital will release your financial record to anybody so what I am saying can never happen.

You care about the lady and the baby (even if it is just a little), that is where you want to make sure you give the information and advice you have.
If you did not care you would not have bothered with this post at all, so thanks for caring!, we will continue to be our 'brother's keeper'

It think all you need to do is up your budget to $7k; from the general consensus that will do; hopeful with no complications, Also you can be given time to pay up; if you the above is not adequate as i dont support milking a system which u haven't contributed into, only u know the reason why this is important to you.

Re: I Want To Give Birth In Us by WAVixen: 9:23pm On Sep 06, 2010
little contribution to the post. true story and happened 2 months ago.

Woman arrives the US with intention to pay hospital bills after delivery, she has relatives in The States. Firstly, no OB will take her because she is over 30 weeks gone. Ok, in order to get into the system she tries to get in through the emergency route. She is rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital and is asked for her ID, she says she doesnt have any, and is told they cant help her if she doesnt have any ID. Finally she produces her passport with visa on it. There is no insurance to cover her. She is admitted, details taken. Observed for 4 and a half hrs, given 3 tynenol and sent home thinking she has been able to get into the system so when labour starts they aleast have her record. How wrong!!!! She is slammed with a bill of $950 and told she has to get an OB to make her use the hospital.

Some one mentioned 'PROVIDENCE HOSPITAL' in an earlier post, that hospital was also visited and she was asked if she had a visa and she replied in the affirmative, she is told she will pay a $12,000 deposit and if any complication arises the bill will climb, if it doesnt, she will be given the final bill.

Option three came in the first emergency route hospital, there was a doctor who took women from 37 weeks sef, but you pay $3,500 cash for prenatal, labour and delivery. Then you pay the hospital 4,000 for using it's facilities, 1,500 for epidural, 1,000 for the Peditrician and 3,000 to the doctor for blood work which he must run. In there you found women from almost all over the World in his waiting room.
The final solution came in form of a birthing center, where you give birth the traditional way, but they take women with low risk pregnancies.
Re: I Want To Give Birth In Us by WAVixen: 9:28pm On Sep 06, 2010
If you are ready to give birth without epidural, go through the natural process of labour and delivery then try a birthing center. There is no intervention. It's cheaper though you pay out of pocket if you have no insurance. The cost isnt as bad as that of the hospital. But bear in mind that in the event of any complications you are made to understand that you will be taken to a nearby hospital that is affliated with the birthing center and YOU will cover the cost which depends on the procedure you undergo. I hope this helps.

seems like a lot of stress on top of the pregnancy itself.

I don't understand why having birth is so expensive in the USA, $12000 just for 2 or 3 days stay in the hospital? how much does epidural injections costs that makes them to charge $1500?. It seems to me that they've turned this birthing to money making exercise after realising some people's insatiable quest US passport, grin grin grin. Apart from the fact that all this is free in the UK for both citizens and residents so many illegals can have their child free without anyone requesting for their ID.If at all some people have to pay I'm sure it wouldn't be that astronomical compare to the US of A, sometime i just don't understand all these craziness about America sef, grin grin grin

ummmmmm i don't know the definite answer to this but u are aware that medical care in america is not free hence why giving birth is expensive. if you check its probably the same price if you went private in the UK.

Healthcare in yankee is eye-wateringly expensive generally and is not applicable to only pregnant people with anchor babies, i escorted a friend to go extract one tooth in 1999 for $950, i also paid $500 to have a knee xray done the same period, though i claimed this back on my insurance, phew shocked

NHS haemourages taxpayers money wastefully and charges around £2,500 per night for normal delivery for every woman in labour, a ride in an ambulance works out at an average £500, etc. Giving birth in a private hospital such as Portland starts from £10,000, so this is just about on par with the rate in US.

UK is trying to steer women to giving birth at home with only one midwife in attendance to save costs as straightforward childbirth is not a life and death experience, but have had to shelve this idea for now due to the chronic shortage of Midwives cool

Re: I Want To Give Birth In Us by AjanleKoko: 12:21pm On Jul 06, 2011
These days you can get huge discounts if you prepay for childbirth in the US. Just head to some of the midwest states with huge faciities and low birth rates. Like Arkansas, Tennessee, etc. They need the funds, and a $10k charge can easily become $2.5k. Stay away from insurance. Just pay cash and try not to leave with debt, so you can still get a visa in the future.
