GOV. JIM NWOBODO, ANAMBRA STATE Was jailed for 22 years for corruption by the Military tribunal in 1984. Set against this is his record of corruption and abuse of office as governor in the Second Republic. Convicted for an array of corrupt practices by Gen. Buhari’s tribunals, the indictment of Jim Nwobodo by Air Vice- Marshal Muktar Mohammed and the dressing-down given him for sordid acts of corruption remain embedded in the memory of those who thought we had “”progressive” governors in Nigeria. After his release and subsequent appointment as minister he has been associated with one scandal or the other. This was also captured in the book "Civil-military Relations, Nation Building, and National Identity" AFTER REALEASE: He was released by the Babangida Administration. Jim Nwobodo was at the forefront of Abacha's Life Presidency and led party Chieftains in Presidential jet to adopt Abacha as the party flagbearer at the twilight of Abacha's rule. Of Nwobodo’s scandalous moments, the one the nation should neither forget nor forgive was his role at the Maiduguri convention of the Grass roots Democratic Movement in the twilight of Abacha’s lifetime. Flying in with members of the party’s executive council and security officers in a presidential jet from Abuja, Nwobodo ensured that the party’s constitution was illegally amended, and rammed through the election of Abacha, who was not even a party member, as the party’s flagbearer in forthcoming phantom elections (which were designed to succeed phantom coups, phantom crusades against corruption and phantom external reserves) He subsequently played a major role in the so-called two million man march (the Jamboree of the Abacha- must-stay acolytes) and remained an integral part of the squandering of the riches of this country on the dictator’s desperate bid at self-succession. http:// www.gamji.com/sanusi/sanusi3.htm He is a member of PDP. Bendel Governor Ambrose Alli was jailed for 100years for misappropriating funds belonging to Bendel State to the tune of N983,000. The Money was meant for road project but he donated it to his Party. He was later freed when Sir Gabriel Igbenedion paid fine to the Government. Ambrose Ali had claimed that it was the contractor incharge of the road project that GAVE him the money to give to his party-Which he did. The Military Tribunal found him guilty for diverting State's money to his party. Ali's Son still maintained that it was the contractor that Gave him(Ali). Sir Gabriel Igbenedion paid a fine to have Ali regain freedom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Ambrose_Folorunsho_Alli#Later_career ACCORDING to his Son “Also, he was tried for several things. GOV ADAMU ATTAH, KWARA STATE The political godson of Dr Olusola Saraki was convicted of corruption by Military special tribunal in 1984. According to Historian, Max Siollun Although the harsh sentences and nature of the tribunals were criticised, it is arguable that Nigeria needed these Nuremberg style trials in order to free itself from its corrupt past. The era of Buhari and Idiagbon was the first, and only time that Nigerian public officials were tried, and held accountable for their actions in office However the controversy surrounding the tribunals’ composition created enough justification for Babangida to release the jailed politicians without the public asking whether irrespective of the nature of the tribunals, the defendants were actually guilty of the offences they were convicted of. 1. I wonder why some GEJ supporters STILL BELIEVE they can succeed in whipping up enough 'southern' SENTIMENTS with this kind of divisive posts and make the SW people IGNORE all the CRITICAL ISSUES at stake in the forth-coming election and re-elect this CLUELESS and SELF-CENTRED president for another four more DISASTROUS years SIMPLY BECAUSE HE IS THEIR 'SOUTHERN BROTHER'!. 2. Is it NOW that it suits their narrow divisive AGENDA that we are NO LONGER divided into SE, SS, SW, NE, NW, NC? 3. Have the CLANNISH and DIVISIVE elements among the GEJ supporters forgotten how they have been viciously and maliciously SINGLING OUT certain sub-groups of their 'southern brothers' for incessant insults and all sorts of cruel taunting? 4. Has the 'southern' president EVER tried to reign in the crudest and most clannish among his kinsmen, such as Clark and Asari Dokubo, when they were publicly and viciously insulting prominent and well-intentioned Nigerians who dare criticize his government, including 'fellow southerners'? 5. How come the SW people are NOW your 'SOUTHERN' brothers, and the people of the MIDDLE BELT are now just lumped as 'NORTHERNERS'? 6. What happened to the 'SS/SE/MIDDLE BELT alliance' that some of you guys have been taunting the rest of Nigerians with? 7. Now that the reality of the VOTING POWER of each SUB-REGION has finally dawned on you, and the imminent electoral defeat of your clueless man is staring you in the face, you have suddenly jettisoned the MIDDLE BELT as your partner in alliance, and they are are now just 'northerners'. 8. I really pity GEJ supporters because this kind of PATHETIC attempt at APPEALING to 'southern' SENTIMENTS to get votes for the Clueless-In-Chief would NOT have been NECESSARY if he had performed up to the EXPECTATIONS of ALL Nigerians in his first term! 3 Likes |

If 2015 election campaign is to be run of facts, Buhari will have a difficult time. He has a terrible records in human rights, democracy, statesmanship, economy management, fresh ideas and creativity. His style is inherently brute force. He seem not to even believe in institutionalizing his efforts for long lasting effect. He has no ideas on 21st century democracy. I heard him on the last Channels TV interview justify the sack of Shagari's government. The guy is an unrepentant dictator. If this election is to be issue based, he has lost the election even before the contest. Forget the online noise, it is part of the brute force strategy. His campaign so far has been based on lies. That is why APC will make all the efforts to induce mass hysteria in the election campaign just like Buhari's followership up North. For the enlightened southerners shouting 'Sai Buhari', you should ask your self why the kind of people that share such chants with you up North are more of Almajiris and social misfits. A deliberate insight into the man's record will wean you off such chants, that is one thing that Almajiris are incapable of doing and that is exactly why they are Buhari's supporters. That is what I call mass hysteria!! 10 Likes 4 Shares |

MusaIbrahim1: Oputa panel? Oputa panel was just a kangaroo panel extra-judicialy set by Obj, it lacks the constitutional mandate to summon any Nigerian to stand before it. So legally Buhari is right to decline attendance of such a market gathering, set up by Obj to embarrass his percieved political enemies. After all the supreme court declared the forum null and void, on the ground of it lack of constitutional backing |

omarlee: Your position is not doing Buhari any favours. You are telling us that Buhari is afraid of discussing his human rights records and so should not appear before the panel under the guise of illegality? Nigerians wanted the panel to heal the wounds of military era inflicted by men like Buhari and the best your hero could do is to turn his back on the hurting Nigerians? The same people he want to be their President? Are you even aware that your Buhari justified the sack of a democratic government (with all its weaknesses) during the last Channels TV interview and his reason was that the Shagari led democratic government was 'kworrupt'? And this is the man you want to benefit from the same democracy at the highest level? The man has no democratic credentials, his ideas are rooted in the medieval era. What is the difference between the public flogging of thieves in Somalia and the flogging of Nigerians for not queueing up to buy milk or sugar in shops? That is how archaic the man's ideas are. |

The owner of the post was telling the hausa to vote against the fulanis that if the vice. president was a fulani man Boko haram will have become a thing of the past. omarlee: The Oputa Panel was to identify persons and institutions responsible for the human rights violations, assess their effects on victims and the general society, and recommend appropriate measures to redress past injustices and prevent future violations. It was more of a peace talk and for your Buhari to avoid a peace talk shows a lot of dictatorship in him. |

FrankC3: Accept it or not, there is no basis for apology for doing what is right, government policies and programmes always come with merit and demerit it, depends on which side you find yourself-therefore removing an incompetent government from power for reasons of embezzlement and corruption can be justified as even the major actors of the deposed government have overtime believed that what Buhari did as of that time was morally right. Its part of civilization to queue for services especially in advance countries, many of our country men can withstand the long queues in major airports around the world but the moment they set foot in nigerian they turn rascals. And lastly, Oputa panel was a sham. I Hope it has healed your wound-the inflicted on you by the military. Remain blessed! |

[quote author=MusaIbrahim1 post=29315904] The Oputa Panel was to identify persons and institutions responsible for the human rights violations, assess their effects on victims and the general society, and recommend appropriate measures to redress past injustices and prevent future violations. It was more of a peace talk and for your Buhari to avoid a peace talk shows a lot of dictatorship in him. [/quote Under law nothing built on illegality can stand-as it was shown by the desolation of the panel by a court of competent jurisdiction. Therefore, by partaking in such forum that is not recognised by any giving law is acting in support of illegality. The Oputa panel even at its initial stage did not in any possible way addressed the reasons you highlighted above-let's take the kudirat/almustapha scenerio whereby the two persons that carried out her murder were absolved by the panel and almustapha whom was alleged to be the chief conspirator was viewed with the cloak of a murderer, eventhough he denied involvement. Continue chanting the Buhari is a dictator mantra, but keep in mind that dictators shaped great nations (check the history of great nations around the world) What is dictator to you, is a decisive leader to another. |

On July 4, 1984, the Guardian Newspaper and two of its journalists Tunde Thompson, then Senior Diplomatic Correspondent and Nduka Irabor, who was Assistant News Editor, became the first victims of this very obnoxious decree. The two journalists were eventually jailed for one year without an option of fine! Guardian Newspapers was fined Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00). They had published in The Guardian of April 1 & 8, 1984 stories with the headlines “Eight Military Chiefs Tipped as Ambassadors” and “Haruna to Replace Hannaniya”(Which was misleading as at then). AFTER RELEASE: Irabor would later become the press officer to Babangida’s deputy and in June 1993. would stain his name forever by allowing it to be associated with the gravest electoral event in Nigeria’s history when he circulated a statement annulling the results of the June 1993 presidential election won by Chief MKO Abiola.
