face reality babe1, Asaba is an aberration.
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 8:01am On Aug 28, 2006
Yeah, Otokx, it sure is.

History has it that Asaba was founded by Bini and Igbo peeps. Methink it should be a part of present day Edo or Anambra State.
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by sirify(m): 8:40am On Aug 28, 2006
Asaba might be an aberration or whatever u guys like but the capital of delta state is asaba and they is absolutely nothing u can do about it. Just wait for 2007, the governorship of Delta State would be coming to Delta North Senatorial district.

As for Ibori becoming the president I have only one thing to say. “Who dash Monkey Bannana”
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by dafman(m): 1:57pm On Aug 28, 2006
Delta state should really be two states, the igbo speaking part has no connection with the other parts of Delta

GDP per capita is no longer $300. It's now $1400 -- according to the 2005 estimates.   See CIA worldfactbook.  If OBJ did nothing else, at least GDP per capita did improve under him -- from $300 8 years ago to $1400 now.

@Sirify, even if all the urhobo people abstain from voting; NO candidate from the north senatorial district will emerge governor so don't console yourself yet.
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 1:47pm On Aug 29, 2006
That the capital of a state like Delta is sited in another state by the evil genius IBB, in consultation with his wife and inlaw - Chief Sonny Odogwu - the propounder of the North-South Oil drift, is terrible enough for the real indigenes of Delta State. We thought that we were going to get a state of our own, but alas! the evil genius has his own Maradonaic agenda.

That Asaba, before now, was a village by the Niger River cannot be disputed. It got shot to limelight when it was made capital of Delta State. Well, it seems they (the natives) are not satisfied with their current status. It's time they get their own state - Anioma. I understand they've been angling for it. Methink they'll get it pretty soon. Then we can say good riddance to bad rubbish.
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by sirify(m): 2:37pm On Aug 29, 2006
I wonder how people reson and say things they are not sure of. How can Sunny Odogwu be the inlaw to IBB when he is not from the same village as his wife in asaba. Or is that you don't know the difference between Odogwu and Okogwu (IBBs wife maiden Name is Okogwu and the brother is Sonny Okogwu different from the industrailist sonny odogwu) better check your facts next time before you deceive those that are not aware.

You said Asaba was a village by the Niger before the creation of delta state. Well if u don't know history then keep quiet (I'm not a historian anyway) the first Premier of the whole mid western region was Chief Dennis OSadebe (an Asaba man), One of Nigeria most popular and influential perm sec in the 1970's was Chief Philip Asiodu, Hope u are also aware of the lander brothers ancorage in asaba. See I'm not here to join issues with you over unnecessary matters, the truth is that we are not suppose to be promoting ethnic and tribal interest at this age, this is the major reason Nigeria has remained backward because whoever is in the helm of affairs is right as far as he/she shares the same tribal affiliations with us.

As a matter of fact that Asaba is the capital of delta state or that IBB redefined the meaning of Delta by including the Igbo speaking part has absolutely nothing to do with the underdevelopment of your region and if the core things are left undiscussed and treated holistically then even if Asaba and other igbo speaking part are removed from delta state and handed to Cameroun or Ghana the problem would still linger.

Ibori has done nothing of note in the igbo speaking part of delta so if you can go round the non-igbo speaking part I want you to check the infrastructure and other developmental projects he has carried out and compare it to his monthly allocation.

Take a look at the governor of CrossRiver state. He has taken crossriver to the envy of most people. He takes an intellignet man to know where the potential of his state lies and to utilise it. If there is any present serving governor that would win my vote its is only Donald Duke. You don't have make noise and celebrate your achievements, achievements by Nature celebrate themselves.

I love my brothers from the core Niger Delta, (I have very good friends from there well reasoned ones anyaway) and I always try to defend their actions when i am faced with the question OH YOU ARE FROM THAT TERRIBLE STATE, THOSE HOSTAGE TAKERS. (though sometimes I am embarrased. But when I am made to feel like a second class citizen in my state coupled with the embarrasment i am faced with daily then I pray everyday for our own state.

I REST MY CASE COS I WOULD NEVER READ THIS SECTION AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
LETS LEARN TO DROP ETHNIC COLOURATION TO MATTERS IN THIS COUNTRY
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 3:20pm On Aug 29, 2006
Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the First Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria. He was from Ijebu-Remo in Ogun State. Yet he stayed at Ibadan to sit at the helm of affairs in the Western Region and there was no trouble. He achieved so much for the Yorubas that they have taken Awo as a demigod. But that does not automatically qualify Remo as a state capital. Spare me all those crap about Dennis Osadebe and Lander brothers.

Chief Philip Asiodu is the one who told the military government in the 70s that the Niger Delta people are just a bunch of feeble freedom fighters. He said if they make too much noise, the FG should use it's military might to quell any uprising from them. Go read the history of that evil man and know what stuff he's made of.

You talk of ethnicity as if it's not here to stay with us. Where I work, the so many Yoruba and Igbos loves communicating in their language whenever they've got something that they know might benefit everybody. But they love communicating such to their tribal groups first. They even prefer employing their ethnic groups to any other group.

If you're not satisfied with Ibori's performance in Igbo speaking part of Delta, please join your brothers in Anambra. Or carry your complaints to Abuja and seek help. And when you get there, tell them to give you your own state - Anioma, so that you can get your own part of the national cake from the Niger Delta. Your people got what they want by stirring the horners nests. So, let the bees sting them.

And whether it's Okogwu on Odogwu, I do not give a hoot. They're thesame bunch of North-South oil drift amateur scientists. Thanks for the correction anyway. Please tell your sister (Mariam IBB) to advice IBB to drop that Presidential ambition of his, because even if his inlaws in Asaba vote for him, that will not be enough to take him to Aso rock come May 29, 2007. Tell her this time around, no amount of maradoneering will take IBB to Aso Rock again!

@ono
"Does that make it right". Remember i warned earlier lets not fall prey to the ethnic card, you can see why, its such a divisive tool. Next it will be religion.

I recognise the problem is real but should we continue encouraging it, thats what was used to divide our parents, should we let that divide us too. ono can you marry a girl from Asaba?
Re: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by sirify(m): 6:00pm On Aug 29, 2006
Who is talking about IBB being the president what has that got to do with me. Pls spare me the trouble or has anger made u to lash out at anything.

I think u guys should take ur case to abuja to get another state or can't we learn to live in peace. What difference does it make where the capital is or would you make a case becasue the Capital of Nigeria is Abuja ( a dry land that produces no resources). Let me tell you something you don't know and that is why the southern part of the country fails to produce a president (except there is a concencus by the North to give it to us for eg 1999) because they have sowed the seed of seperate southern region and an indivisible nothern region that iw why when there is a political conference the north comes as one indivisible part and the south would come as the 3 different region.

The problem really is how we see the problem. Answer this questions trully and you would see that no matter where the capital lies the niger delta people would suffer teribly until it gets to understand that the common igbo, yoruba or even hausa man is his problem.

What really is keeping the Niger delta from developing 40% Government 60% south south leaders.
Alams was gaining my admiration because of the way he was fighting for the cause of his people alas what happens he takes the little one he ws given away (if he had total resource control what would have happened).

Again apart from derivation policy (other factors such as landmass and population contribute to the allocation so you would agree that the igbo speaking part at least has a share in the allocation of the state. I was never and would never ask the state givernment to use the 13/25% derivation in the non oil producing area but the left over should be shared. But i assue that both the left over and the derivation is squandered so much that the problem still persist.

The leaders of the NIger delta contribute to the problem and until they are made to face and brace up to the challenges the situation would not change no matter how the states are realligned.

PLS what is wrong is wrong even if it is the norm. Ethnicity is bad enough

@sirify, after saying you will not read this section again you end up posting.

the truth is bitter but it must be said, even if the ibo in delta are joined to their kith and kin in anambra they will still not amount to anything in the political equation. IBB has lost most of the votes of the people in delta state because of this evil he did.

only very very very very incompetent people find their way in government positions in nigeria.people wit shallow ideas of what statecrafts is all about, people with no knowledge of economics, social and welfare issues, rights, freedom etc and how all these issues connects to create a better society for all. dummies - that is wat we haave as governors, senators and state executives in our country. that is why there is no real progress there. when u listen to them u will discover wat i am saying. they read from papers(perhaps written by their secretary). lack discipline, etc . all the immediate past south south state governors fall under this categories. i like and admire ibori for his street smartness but i dont think he will do anytin good if he becomes nigerian president.

@ post,
so much said by all.
The intellectual and applaudable argument by messrs ono & buluti is highly commendable.
Nevertheless, we are all speaking too much grammar.
The truth be told: Ibori nor any other ex Governor that served in Obj's era nor any memeber of their family lineage should be allowed to touch the mantle of leadership in Nigeria forever.
For discussions on true leadership kindly take a queue from the present Lagos State Govt and more especially the man Babatunde Raji Fashola.
I am tired of all these gibberish, claptrap, twaddle farce about a nonentity whose conscience and sagacity has since been sent on extinct exile. They will all rot in their loot.Judgement day is near. (No offence is intended to any pre-post or post-post on this thread, just expressing my views)
BULUTI
kindly accept my salute for a good job well done. Keep it up.
