Surprisingly Nigeria and Ethiopia that we are arguing about didn't make the list.

Am shocked at the pace Rwanda is growing.

Was privilege to be there 2014; they have beautiful cities and sightseeing. These was a country at war in 1994.

I'm more surprised Nigeria is not there, with all this tech startups sprouting everywhere.

I'm not surprised to see Rwanda there... Those guys are pursuing technical development as if their lives depends on it.

They have drones for delivering medicine, drones for mapping out agricultural areas, drones for delivering goods.. This days they use drones for almost everything.

Innoson motors design and produces some parts such as the body,dashboard, bumpers, electrical parts, etc of their vehicles. They import the engines, gearbox, chassis with few other parts.

An assembly plant assembles parts that have already being made together. A good example is Peugeot automobile Nigeria, Nissan assembly plant, hyhudia assembly plant in Lagos or even TATA assembly plant.

The difference is clear.PAN or Nissan Nigeria don't design or produce parts here, they just assembly according to specification or how they were taught to put them together.

Fact is not all that you read is empirical. You bet the folks that compiled that list have never been to Nigeria or Ethiopia to do detailed analysis of it's industrial sector. If I go by what only our Air Force has accomplished in the past year it trumps the size of whatever innovation has come out of South Africa. Sry I'm not one of those with colonial mentality to swallow hook line and sinker whatever they tell. This is one reason Henry keeps talking about low self esteem which many misunderstand which actually means the average thought process of most Africans is controlled by the Anglo-west alliance.

DJIBOUTI— One-hundred twelve Djiboutian soldiers joined the ranks of the Djiboutian Army’s Rapid Intervention Battalion (RIB) following a graduation ceremony, June 28.

During the ceremony, top performing soldiers were recognized, traditional Afar and Somali dances were performed, and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) and RIB leaders spoke to the men. U.S. Navy Cmdr. Robert Yovich, CJTF-HOA Director of Future Operations, congratulated the graduates during his remarks.

"This training and collaborative effort only make our bonds stronger; I appreciate your hard work and dedication and I applaud you for this accomplishment." said Yovich.

Soldiers from Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division assigned to CJTF-HOA provided training in U.S. Army basic warrior tasks, U.S. Army combatives, and combat life-saving. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Fort spoke to the RIB soldiers he trained following their culminating exercise.

“Where you are now, are leaps and bounds from where you began.” said Fort, “I encourage you to train on your own and I am proud of every one of you.”

CJTF-HOA’s continued commitment to training and equipping the RIB enables Djibouti’s effectiveness in developing security and stability within its’ borders and East Africa, according to Marine Corps Capt. Aaron Baker, CJTF-HOA Officer in Charge of RIB Operations.

“The development of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (RIB) holds significant strategic value in the long lasting partnership between the U.S. forces and the Djiboutian military.” said Baker.

Set apart from the first training cycle of the RIB, this group included previous graduates instructing alongside U.S. Soldiers.

“The RIB Soldiers are extremely motivated to learn U.S. tactics and techniques.” said Baker, “I have witnessed their Non-Commissioned Officers blossom since the initiation of the RIB and take on additional teaching and instructional procedures.”

The RIB’s mission is to serve as a reactionary force to accomplish specified tasks directed by their higher command in the Djiboutian army. Djiboutian Army Cpt. Omar Ali Hassan, Commanding Officer of the RIB, spoke of his men’s enhanced understanding of that mission.

“The battalion has a better idea of why they are here and through that are more cohesive.” said Hassan, “They are very motivated and looking forward to the rest of their training.”

CJTF-HOA works to facilitate U.S. Africa Command’s programs and activities to support the development of capable, professional partner nation military forces to include Africa Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership, a Presidentially-supported initiative to develop the rapid response capabilities of selected African partners and provide the training and equipping for rapid response development, engineering, medical, and command and control.

I don't hate to hear a fellow African country doing well. Nigeria from the civil war has been building from scratch the critical weapons it needs to prosecute it's wars and wins. Ethiopia with all that copy & produce is now signing a peace deal with Eritrea because it can't win the war and now needs Eritrea to contain Egypt just in case.

If any of these countries fight the scale of wars and insurrection we fight both from powerful foreign and domestic enemies they would have ceased to exist. Give us our due biko!

The last paragraph of your mention is no different from my allusions here and elsewhere that Nigeria has suffered from years of bad leadership. However the matter in question is in reference to Henry's factual claim that Nigeria is significantly ahead of Ethiopia in modern defence industry. These were accomplished under our democrat dispensation especially in the last three years. This is the point. No one denies that had we been practicing democracy since 1960 not even Egypt or Algeria will come close to our heavy equipment holdings. Nigeria has not arrived but it has left. Acknowledge that minimum.
