The article is right in some respects - we don't have good enough cover when our first team gets injured.

This has been the situation, especially in central midfield with Cesc for almost 3 years now, but Cesc never got injured. It happened this time around, along with other injuries, forcing AW to buy. Now does that mean he has changed? I doubt it.

Arsene can be highly infuriating - why did we get Bischoff, Coquelin and others and they won't play except for the reserves? Why is Wilshire or Vela not starting ahead of the ponderous Eboue?? Sometimes it's very difficult to judge why AW does certain things, or maybe it's because the players do better in training that we can't see.  

Of the lot, NONE can be worse than Eboue at the moment, so I take umbrage at not playing them.  

I don't agree with buying a DMF at the moment - they boys we have, yes INCLUDING MOFO Song, have been good in the games so far this year. In fact, Diaby was playing the kind of game we know he can till the injury truncated his run again.   They should be given till the end of the season (like Eboue was given at RB till end of 06/07) before replacing them.

How can someone rationally saying Dudu being back but Ade being out for THREE WEEKS is the same thing   Gooners let their negativity get the better of them at times. This nonsense about our 'best' players leaving last year is arrant nonsense. We had Clichy, Sagna, Cesc and Ade in EPL team of the season and they are ALL still here.

Yes we lost half of our midfield, and it would be difficult to replace that instantly, but we did get Nasri and tried to get Xabi but failed. I'm not excusing the failure to sign, but anyone thinking AW is stale doesn't know anything. For him to want to buy such players shows he understands deeply where our problems lie. We now have Arshavin, we might get Rozzi back and we also have Vela in the squad.

In my view, peculiar events such as Cesc's injury (yes I know, we should've had a replacement) amongst others, loss of form by many of our best performers last season (including Cesc)  and fragile team confidence have affected us badly.

Many people feel keeping the guys from last term would've avoided the problem. I disagree - Hleb and Flamini have not blown up their respective leagues to give that impression. They've been bit part players, and unexceptional ones at that.

Granted AW's had misguided faith in Eboue, Denilson has had a rough introduction to a full premiership season, and Song has just been, well. Song.  

There's a heck of a lot to play for this season - CL, FA and a CL slot in the league. It looked better at this point last season but ended up not much better. I do believe Gazidis coming in will IMMENSELY help AW to focus more on the team and do less running of the club. We might be drawing, but I do feel we've turned the corner - as long as we keep our current focus on defensive discipline and our creative players come back, we have a fantastic chance of silverware THIS term.

Our best chance is of course the FA cup - a knock out competition in which we have almost unrivalled pedigree.

The CL is eminently winnable too - it all depends on how things go.

Who is defending him? It will always be open to conjecture whether he made a mistake or a colossal error - I think it was a mistake.

He is the one who knows what he saw in the dressing room before making that decision, coupled with the player's desire for long term stability. (5 year deal at 31)

AW remains the best man to turn things around - one would think he wasn't the same dude who BOUGHT Bertie in the first place. I'm not saying his judgment is flawless, but I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Alonso's deal would always go down to the wire due to the Barry situation. It would be UNFAIR to string Gilberto along when he had a 5 YEAR deal waiting at Panathinaikos. He was allowed to leave cos he had been a faithful servant. In an ideal world it would be good, but Bertie wanted LONG TERM security not a one year deal like he had at Arsenal.
