The Federal Government, yesterday said Nigeria has lost more than 2,000 mega watts in the national grid due to shortage of gas supply to the thermal plants. A statement signed by the Chairman of the National electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Dr. Sam Amadi said that only five out of 23 power plants are currently generating electricity. “In the last couple of months, electricity supply has been generally poor on account of increase in vandalism in the run up to the April 2015 elections. But this bad supply condition has worsened in the last few days,” Amadi said. “At present, 18 out of the 23 power plants in the country are unable to generate electricity due shortage of gas supply to the thermal plants with one of the hydro stations faced with water management issue. This has led to loss of over 2,000 megawatts in the national grid. “This situation is further compounded by the recent industrial actions embarked upon by workers in the oil and gas industry, a development which is taking toll on other sectors of the economy. Gas supplies to the thermal plants have been further constrained by the industrial actions of workers in the oil and gas industry. rottennaija: Dude, that is the way to go men. God willing, I will install my first set (250-500 watts) this year to charge the inverter batteries I already have. Next year, I'll up it to 2000-3000 watts. I mean the sun is always shinning in Lagos, that's free energy yo! Once I get to 5kw-7kw, I will burn that MAINS cable from the useless power company, nonsense 1 Like |

This is the reason why serious nations have a MIX of power generating sources. If we had enough power from coal and other sources, we wouldn't be in such sorry situation. But OBJ wanted only gas because building coal plants will mean building power plants in Enugu and Benue, which were not preferred destinations. This is what tribal consideration does to a nation. Even Zambia with very little coal and not as clean as Nigeria's coal, have completed their 3rd coal power station.

OreMI22: God bless you my brother! Even America has a large share of coal as a power source, like 40% and we are here with coal sitting idle. Its just sad men. Has anyone ever heard of coal pipelines being vandalized? Lol! Of course there's nothing like that, so there'd be no excuses not to generate power smoothly. This country is made up of a lot of daft leaders, sorry to say. |

NoMoreTrolling: What you have already, can it carry ur ac and fridge? How many batteries are you using and how long does it last. |
Re: PHOTO: Power Situation Worsens As Nigeria Loses 2,000MW To Gas Shortage by NoMoreTrolling: 11:31pm On May 27, 2015 |
rottennaija: It carries a small fridge but no Ac and lasts for about 6-8 hours, with only 2 batteries. I could get more time If I add 2 more batteries in parallel, but we have a gen that covers down time. My goal though is to be free from PHCN and only run the gen for 2-4 hours a day max, if need be, like on cloudy or rainy days. The new system I'm designing though would carry two small 1hp Acs, with load shedding amongst the Acs. I'm thinking I'll need at least 8 250 watt panels for that, maybe a bit more. For now though, I'm just gonna get 1 250 watt panel to help charge the batteries and prevent early battery failure. As I get more money, I'll add more panels and get a high wattage inverter that would power the Acs. That's like my 1 year plan. |
