NPL invites Sharks, Dolphins to explain role in week three match The Nigeria Premier League has invited officials and captains of Sharks and Dolphins football clubs of Port-Harcourt to explain what happened in their week three match at the Sharks Stadium. A statement from the league body said that the officials and captain of the clubs will meet with NPL on Tuesday in Abuja. “We have invited the officials and captains of the two clubs so as to find out their role in the match. “We are going to find out a lot from them and if they are guilty of playing the match the way they did, then they would be punished according to what the status guiding the Premier League says,” the statement read. Meanwhile, Kwara United of Ilorin have been warned to make sure they control their fans anytime the are playing at home. The league organizing body noted that the Ilorin side has been given the last warning to take full charge of the security in the matches or face the full weight of the law. “We cannot allow any club, bring the game to disrepute and we learnt of some harassment in the game against Kano Pillars last weekend in Offa. “Such occurrence is not good for the league and the management must make sure that no away club is molested in Offa again,” NPL said. http://www.npl.com.ng/news.php?id=302 |

3SC set sights on top four finish In spite of struggling against one of the best sides in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) last Saturday, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) believe they can finish among the top four sides this season. Head coach of the club, Fatai Amoo, disclosed that his side are prepared for the rough ride in the top-flight after suffering their first defeat in the NPL to Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano in a Week 4 game. Amoo is confident that despite being faced with another tough trip to Enyimba for a Week 5 clash on Sunday, the club can finish among the top four. The Shooting Stars coach also said he has his eyes on the Enyimba game billed to hold in Aba this weekend. “We can finish among the top four I believe and even higher than that. We have started well this season though we lost to Kano Pillars unfortunately. “Our approach to the game against Enyimba will be different, and we will in our usual style go out and attack,” he said. Last season, Shooting Stars finished 11th on the log and 18 points behind champions, Enyimba though Amoo joined the side almost close to the end of the season to save the club from dropping to the lower division. Amoo, a former coach of Sunshine Stars, said the Oluyole Warriors will bridge the gap between them and the likes of Enyimba and Kano Pillars this term. Source: SuperSport.com |

Nigeria decides league boss fate on Wednesday The dispute for the chairmanship of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) could be decided once and for all on Wednesday when the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) meets at the Glass House in Abuja. Former Bayelsa United chairman, Victor Baribote Rumson, has been locked in a battle with the NPL chairman, Davidson Owumi, after an arbitration panel chaired by Professor Oye Ibidapo Obe nullified the election of the current Premier League chief. The meeting of the Nigerian FA, which had been initially billed to hold last week, will take place with its president, Aminu Maigari, chairing the occasion after returning to the country on Sunday in the wake of undergoing medical treatment in South Africa. Acting Secretary-General of the football house, Musa Ahmadu, said the secretariat will forward every detail of the dispute over the NPL chairmanship to the NFF Executive Committee to deliberate upon. “The secretariat will include in the agenda to be discussed by the Executive Committee the issue of the NPL chairmanship. The football federation is keen to see peace return to the league leadership and I believe that the matter will be ironed out and a decision taken by the Executive Committee on Wednesday. “It must be remembered that in our attempt to broker peace among the parties – three of them to be precise – we invited them to a meeting, which ended in a lock. We invited Mr Davidson Owumi, Mr Baribote Rumson and also, Honourable Abdulazeez Mohammed over the matter and nothing came out of it. So, the matter will now be handled by the Executive Committee,” Ahmadu said. The three men, it would be recalled, were invited to the NFF’s office in Abuja on November 3. However, there have been reports that the country’s soccer governing body could call for fresh elections into the NPL. In spite of speculations of a new election in the offing, former Bayelsa United chairman is demanding that Owumi does not take part in the re-election process claiming that he was ineligible to contest in the first place http://naijaligue..com/ |

medjai:still waiting on the outcome of the meeting of the executive committee on the Owumi/Baribote issue. I dont know if they still met because Siasia was also to be unveiled on the same day. Anyways, whatever they do, they should make sure Owumi remains chairman of the NPL. The man obviously has a vision. This season, the league has taken a quantum leap from what it ever was and it can only get better with him in charge. Hardly have we had any case of crowd trouble, violence, referees being beaten up and all what nots that were hitherto bedevilling the league. I know he is not qualified to be NPL chairman but he should be allowed to continue based on what he has achieved in his short stay in office and there should be no need for another election |

medjai: it's only 3-4 weeks, same was said of the previous guys in the NFA/NFF dont think its right to judge someone based on 3 months when his tenure is probably 4-5years, I think we should be harsh in judging these guys Television is still piss poor, NTA is not pulling its weight at all, online presence is abysmal for all the clubs including the NPL itself i mean they can still do with some videos or even get some from their partners supersports, create employment by employing 5-10 extra I.T guys around the country for regular update, commercialise the league by selling jersey on behalf of the teams online and WHAT's happening with the sponsorship there are some simple tricks like offering tickets via competition to fans- season tickets or even tickets to top four matches |

medjai: Well clubs always sell good players for more money, we know this's what goes on in our league, local clubs hardly keep their good product for long, this should be stopped if we want our league to blossom. I suggest NPL should be a minimum of 2-4yrs restriction on any players who's to be sold out of Nigeria, though we know Reuben is still in the league but i still can't swallow the sales of Ahmed Musa and co, ever since Ahmed moved to VVV, they have been losing like a born loser. |

Dis Guy:there's still a lot of work to be done especially in the area of television and publicity. They simply have to find a way to make the league seen on local tv. Besides, there should be features, magazine shows, highlight shows and all what not to help create a huge hype around the league. But then, Owumi has made an auspicious start and I hope he continues this way |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by honeric01(m): 6:17pm On Dec 03, 2010 |
^^^ Why did you say Owumi was/is not qualified to be the chairman of the NPL? what made you say so? |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by medjai(m): 6:40pm On Dec 03, 2010 |
honeric01:Owumi was never a club chairman so that already made him ineligible to contest the position of NPL boss. The statutes say you must be a club chairman. Owumi was not a club chairman though he held an administrative position with Rangers and that is why the tussle is lingering |

NPL lifts suspension on Pillars goalie The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has lifted the ban slammed on Kano Pillars’ goalkeeper, Sani Haliru, for a misconduct charge last season. Haliru was charged with attempting to assault a match official shortly after the game with Enyimba during the last edition of the Super Four at the Gateway International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode. Premier League spokesman, Emeka Nwani, confirmed that the ban was lifted on Wednesday. He said the Premier League has decided to lift the ban on Haliru after he has served four months on compassionate grounds. “The suspension on the goalkeeper of Kano Pillars, Sani Haliru, has been lifted. The NPL decided to lift the suspension on the goalkeeper on the grounds of compassionate. So, he can return to his team,” said Nwani. Nwani also disclosed that the fine placed on the goalkeeper has been paid by Kano Pillars. The development now means that Haliru can resume training with Kano Pillars. The NPL spokesman also said the goalkeeper’s ban was lifted so that he can begin training with his club ahead of next year’s edition of the CAF Champions League. Haliru was not part of the players registered for the start of the season. Kano Pillars will now have the chance to register Haliru when the next transfer window in February next year. But the doctor of the team, who chased the centre referee during that mild melee in Ijebu-Ode, still remains suspended. The doctor was handed a three-year ban by the Premier League. http://www.npl.com.ng/news.php

^^^^^ This newspaper report still does not debunk the fact that Owunmi himself said he was once the chairman of rangers, even Emeka Nwani confirmed that, if he was not, why then was he even allowed to contest in the first place? where were Baribote and the other guy when he was complaining? |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by medjai(m): 9:10pm On Dec 03, 2010 |
^^ My thoughts exactly. Why didnt Baribote and the other candidates vying for NPL's chairmanship position do anything before the election? Maybe they thought they were going to win. As for Owumi being Rangers chairman, I'm not sure about that. Rangers chairman is Onyishi Maduka Samuel and he has been for some time now, even before the NPL elections |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by honeric01(m): 11:16pm On Dec 03, 2010 |
medjai: I still stand to be corrected, if he was never a chairman, how then did he qualify to run or did rangers have 2 chairmen at once? |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by medjai(m): 7:08am On Dec 04, 2010 |
honeric01:He was endorsed by Enugu state government. If he were chairman, Professor Oye Ibidapo would not have nullified the election and Baribote and others against Owumi will not have a case |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by honeric01(m): 8:59am On Dec 04, 2010 |
medjai: ^^^^^ And why do you think they have a case now? were they blind/deaf when he entered as a candidate? why didn't we hear about all these before now? i just don't understand how things are done in this country, They said someone is unqualified, he comes up to compete with you without you raising any dust, after he wins you hands down, you come back to say he's unqualified. there should be a punishment for that kinda action IMO. |

What the big fuss about the Dolphin and Sharks Match? did anyone watch it? why will anyone throw a game at the beginning of the season? Was there a big betting syndicate in the SE or perhaps were the governor betting on the match? |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by medjai(m): 4:53pm On Dec 04, 2010 |
^^ Rivers state government own both clubs. Dolphins at that point in time were topping the league with 6 points while Sharks were down the table with 2 points. I think the motive behind the match fixing was just to get Sharks some valuable 3 points and get them off the foot of the table |
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by honeric01(m): 6:22pm On Dec 04, 2010 |
medjai: And they must have projected into the future, that 3 point is likely to get them something at the end of the season. |
