In his irrepressible desire to see through his signature
projects, the governor of Cross River State, Senator
Ben Ayade today signed the quality control deal for the
Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja-Obudu super highway which the
governor has proposed as one of his signature projects
in his first tenure.
The deal which was signed in the German city of
Wiesbaden is one of several steps that the governor is
taking to see that work on the project begins soonest.
The governor had announced last week that he was in
discussions with the President of the country,
President Mohammadu Buhari, who is expected to
come to the state to do the groundbreaking before the
commencement of work, hopefully in few weeks.
While signing the deal, the governor said he will prove
all the ‘Doubting Thomases’ wrong by making sure that
the road is delivered to Cross Riverians before the end
of his first tenure despite the financial challenges that
the state is facing.
According to governor Ayade, “Anytime there is a
genuine desire to work for the good and in the interest
of a greater majority of the people, the cosmic will
make provision because it is for the sake of the
people. I am very confident that this project which
some pessimists are saying won’t be possible, will be
delivered before the end of our first term in office.
“We have interested investors already who want to
come and invest their money in developing our
intended projects and I must say that these projects
are many. If you go to Airport by pass, Ayade is
building a state owned garment factory there and I am
happy to announce that all equipment were paid for
two weeks ago.”
The governor informed that the design for the state
owned Seaport in Calabar is at advanced stage and the
transaction adviser will be appointed on his return to
Nigeria.
The governor who is presently in Germany to do
recruitment for project quality control is also
aggressively driving German investors to key into his
other plans which include a cement factory and quarry
procurement.
He is expected to depart Germany for Barcelona in
Spain tonight to attend the World Governors Forum for
Climate Change where he serves as the African Chair.
He is expected to deliver a paper at the forum later
tomorrow.
