@ micro, i still have u mind. @ satcopper, u misunderstood my intention totally. we all are still here to render our help. @ nash, am with you concerning d equinoxes maybe when george starts seeing d effect in his geographical location he'll get that then. do u guys also know that d satellites also drift away from their location by a few degrees at some point in time? this affects signal too. |

ALL, this forum was established based on the fact that we Nigerians need a change concerning a substitute to pay tv. The impact of this informative and educative forum has made other people of the world also to associate with us, especially our African brothers. Pls let us not waste our time creating another Nigerian fta satellite forum. PEACE. |

@ olason, am not saying we should create another avenue. With time, a dedicated FTA forum website based in nigeria will surely come up with the rate at which people are embracing FTA now. Here is my |

DUPLEX: This word means transfer of information. Simplex, this is when information can only be passed in just one direction only. It can be likened to a movement of vehicles in a closed road. This is the process of signal transferred employed by the early cable companies. They only transfer information signal to the subscribers and they need no feedbacks from them. So the devices being used then only consist of ICs memories that can only suit the simplex mode of transmission. The memories can be classified to as ROMs (Read only memories) . But later on, due to the progress being made in the technology world, the process of half-duplex was also introduced in the broadcasting world. This word ‘Half-Duplex’ simply means information signal can be transferred in either way, but it has to be only-one-way at a time. i.e. the broadcast company can transmit signals to the viewers, also the broadcasting company can receive feedbacks from the viewers through the same channel. But one at a time. Another example of the half-duplex, is the Walkie-talkie, only one person can talk at a time, while the other person only listens, both party can not talk at the same time. So, with this half-duplex process in place, there’s to be a device that will also be compatible with it. So the early receivers being used during the simplex mode then became obsolete. So the receivers that can work with the half-duplex comprise of PROMs(Programmable Read Only Memories) and EPROMs( Erasable Programmable Read Only Memories). So its with with this technology, billing can be done, cos the broadcasting company can read the status of one’s subscription via satellite through the PROMs and EPROMs present in the decoders. So, with the right adjustments of the memories configuration, it can be altered in such a way that one can read from the database of the broadcasting company, but the company wont be able to read the status of your card in the decoder. eTv, the station in south-africa is a free-to-view station, i.e. there’s a decoder being sold by the broadcaster, but one need to pay for an access card compatible with the decoder to be able to view the channel (but it’s a one-time payment), but due to the presence of numerous half-duplex receivers in market strong decoders for instance, the software configuration may be altered in terms of patch uploading to be able to view the channel free on that decoder different from the manufacturer’s. The eTV manufacturer’s decoder can be classified to belong to the simplex process, but strong decoders to be half-duplex. The half-duplex decoders can also perform the function of the simplex decoders, it the configuration can be altered to be the same with the simplex decoder being used by the broadcasting company. This same process is what is being used by DSTv, Sky e.t.c, there’re some interactive session on some of their channels, but it’s only those making use of their branded decoders can be a part of the exercise, while others with different brand wont be able. There’re some stations from this company that will not even come up at all on a decoder different from the company branded ones. But, there’s still a solution to that, a simple alteration will make it possible. That is why I’ve been saying that, with time we all have to put a stop to the hardware part of FTA and move into the software related part, that is where the secret really lies, and that why all these paytvs are still smiling. If we can have a headway regarding that, then its all over for them. But also the lives of those that came up with that success will also be in danger. WHERE ARE THE SOFTWARE/ICs PROGRAMMERS? |

Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 8:57am On Mar 24, 2009 |
@toxnaija, Some things are hard to believe but it's true. Nothing like a brand new fibre, my brother. Do you recieve up to 90% signal strenght on 10758v tracking frequency? No? Well, that is the point. As for intelsat 903 beam. It is rather laughable that our 'local' stations are placed on a beam unreachable by the people they are meant for. What happened to intelsat 7/10, intelsat 907, eutelsat w4, w3a and all those other birds recievable here in west africa? Why can't they place the stations there? This is a classic case of poor planning, if you ask me. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by SATMAN(m): 11:51am On Mar 24, 2009 |
@ all, The intelsat 903 beam is a FEED link for Dstv and it's not for constomers. They use it to uplink those local channels from lagos to south africa. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by satcoper(m): 12:09pm On Mar 24, 2009 |
George_D:@George_D most african tv channels have 2 beams : the african beam and the european beam. For instance RTI premiere on intelsat903 has 3742V3220 for its african beam and 3907V3041 for its european beam. Same thing for 2stv on W3a which has its european beam encrypted while the african beam is free. @ olofofo thank you for addind me to the g-group. |

George_D: @ George_D, I am happy that you finally nailed the bird (Nilesat) with your 3.0m fibre dish. It means your dish is good (May be better than my warpped 6.0m dish). It also means that your lnb is good and it is in the correct position. I think Sayso should get one of these dishes from that guy in Warri. On my refurbished 6.0m fibre dish, maximum strength for 10758 is 86%. In the afternoon it goes up to 88%. At the moment, I can receive up to 340 stations including Gear One and Space Toon English. My CNN and Showsports fluctuates between 56% and 58%. I will need to do some adjustments to my lnb when I am back. @ All, For all fibre dish users - Please ensure that your dish is painted with a very good grade paint. For example, Meyer paint is very good and expensive. It can last up to five years before you carry out another maintenance. |

@all speaking about a dedicated FTA forum,we should not wait till we are beaten to it,we should be the first and remain the best, the efforts we have put in this forum for the past few years is a result of intelligent and beautiful minds who truely love FTA,so i am in support,if there is going to be any of such. about the cards,,i am looking forward to better ones, than what we have now. |

Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 4:25pm On Mar 24, 2009 |
@BUTONEDAY, You don't need a 6m dish for nilesat here. I think you're under utillising that dish both for the space and the expense involved. Believe me, with a good properly molded new 3m fibre and correct installation, all transponders will come out even in the rain . Apart from that guy's mold being superb, I usually take extra pains with my plumbing making sure my pole is perfectly 90 degrees above ground. Also, my fuji lnb is the original type-the weight alone is something else. Rather than wasting time on nilesat with that size dish, why don't you aim higher for better birds like Astra 2D? I sincerely thought that was what you wanted to use it for. |
