Assalamu alaikum brothers n sisters,pls i wil like those who r enlightened n knowledgeable to advice me on how to go about adopting a child. I ve bn childless for about 4yrs now and i was reading a portion of d Glorious Quran wen i had this strong urge to adopt a baby,i ve never felt dis way b4 in all my years of marriage. i discussed wit my husband n he was ok wit it Alhamdulillah. Now d question is how do we go about it,what n what is required of us? Do we ve any islamic orphanage in nigeria one can adopt? May Allah reward u as u respond. Ramadan Kareem

The Quran specifically reminds adoptive parents that they are not the child’s biological parents: Quran 33 verse 4-5.kindly read it ma.


Adoption in the sense of changing one’s identity and lineage for a false lineage is prohibited in Islam, but at the same time, it is allowed for Muslims to adopt a child in the sense of taking him/her under his/her wing for providing both physical and spiritual care for him/her. Basically you need to consider if you want a baby, toddler and the different challenges the child might bring considering the age.

I would have suggested a child you can breast feed so you become the child's foster mother and a Mahram to the child but I understand that can't be done now, but you can when Allah blesses you with a child.
