I WAS SHOT

I was shot.
I was shot for my country.
I took the shot for the hungry.
I was shot by the angry.

I was shot.
I was shot in my arm.
They were all armed.
They surrounded me.
In my mind i was damned.

I was shot.
I was locked.
Shot to say no more word,
But my mouth was meant to say the word.
So they threw me overboard.

They left me to die,
And in her arms i cried.
This place i stay, lies on the
Right part of her chest
Feel free to call my land her heart.

For the one i speak of is not
Human, she’s just a place where
People like me spring off,
My home Nigeria is the place i speak of.
