About 272 Teachers have been killed by Boko Haram group since the insurgents began its onslaught in the north east region, while over 19,000 teachers have been displaced, president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Micheal Olukoya has said.

According to a report by The Nation, Olukoya further revealed that 37 teachers have been confirmed dead following the Tuesday’s bomb blast in Sabon-Gari, Zaria in Kaduna State, while several other teachers who were victims of the latest bomb blast are currently in critical condition in different hospitals in the states.

Olukoya stated this in Abuja at a programme commemorating the NUT founders day adding that the renewed daily attacks by the sect was indicative that the war against insurgency in the country was far from over.

He argued that retirement age of University lecturers and judges was recently shored up from 65 to 70 years because of the assumption that they tend to perform better having garnered enough experience in the course of service.
