Wike Expresses Anger Over Report On Visits To CJN by iwaeda: 1:35pm On Jul 21, 2015 |
Davidson Iriekpen
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, monday expressed strong reservation over the interpretation given to his visit to the office of the Chief Justice of Nigerian (CJN). A national newspaper had monday reported that Wike had paid two visits to the CJN without prior appointments especially when a petition was pending in at the governorship Election Petitions Tribunal against his election as governor. Wike in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said while it was true that he went to see the CJN on July 7 and 9, his mission was to brief the CJN in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the need to renew the appointment of the acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daisy Okocha, and also the acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Christy Gabriel Nwankwo. He noted that the current tenure of the incumbents would expire by the end of August 2015, by which time, the courts would be on vacation and that the NJC might not be in a position to consider any request for the renewal of their reappointments. The governor added therefore, there was an urgent need to expeditiously secure the renewal of the appointments of acting Chief Judge of the state and her counterpart in the state Customary Court of Appeal before the vacation begins. According to the statement, “My attention has been drawn to the sinister interpretation given to the visit of the governor to the office of the CJN as reported on page 2 of the Punch Newspaper of Monday, July 20, 2015. “While it is true that the governor went to see the CJN on July 7 and 9, 2015, his mission was to brief the CJN in his capacity as the chairman of the NJC on the need to renew the appointment of the acting Chief Judge of the state and also the acting president of the Customary Court of Appeal. “It should be noted that the current tenure of the incumbents will expire by the end of August 2015, by which time, the courts will be on vacation and the NJC may not be in a position to consider any request for the renewal of their reappointments. There is therefore an urgent need to expeditiously secure the renewal of the appointments of acting Chief Judge of the state and her counterpart in the Customary Court of Appeal before the vacation begins. “Although the governor went to the CJN’s office on the said dates but never met him because he was not around. However, considering the urgency and importance of his mission, the governor wrote to the CJN the next day which was July 10, 2015, requesting the approval of the NJC for him to renew the appointments of Justice Okocha and Justice Nwankwo as acting Chief Judge of the state, and the acting President of the state Customary Court of Appeal respectively. “The requests were premised on the need to avoid a sudden vacuum and ensure continuity in the administration of the state’s judiciary pending the appointment of substantive occupants into these offices.” The statement further noted that: “There is nothing wrong in the governor, who is also a member of the Body of Benchers, going to see the CJN during official working hours on issues pertaining to the effective administration of justice in his state. “Therefore, linking the governor’s visit to the CJN with the ongoing election petition is to say the least, malicious, tendentious and a wicked attempt to drag the name of our most revered CJN and indeed the apex court into the murky waters of politics. “It is unfortunate that the management of The Punch Newspapers will allow itself to be used by politicians to denigrate and impugn the integrity of judiciary at the federal level with fabrications and outright falsehood laced with insinuations and innuendos. “The governor therefore advises the management of The Punch Newspapers to caution their journalists to always base their reportage on facts and avoid actions that could trigger a crisis of confidence in the judiciary just to satisfy some narrow political interests.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/wike-expresses-anger-over-report-on-visits-to-cjn/215163/ 8 Likes

.Wike should stop deceiving himself, he can't defend his obviously suspicious visit to the CJN. His reason for visiting the CJN,his laughable and unintelligent of him as the governor of a very wealthy state like Rivers. The recommendation of the substantive chief judge of a state,is the exclusive preserve of the NJC. It is wrong and very shameful, for the governor to publicly say that he went to see the CJN to lobby for the recommendation of Justice okocha as the substantive chief judge of rivers. wike is not the JSC that his mandated by the constitution to forward the name of the acting chief judge to the NJC for recommendation.I urge the DSS to as a matter of urgency, commence the interrogation of the CJN,to see if any money has been transferred to his account. Finally, all judges handling the tribunal cases of all the petitions from Rivers, must be placed under a special security watch, so that they should not give financially Comprised judgements. 79 Likes 5 Shares |

Wike should stop lying! Initially he said he didn't visit the CJN. Now he has twisted his lying tongue admitting he actually visited the CJN but for some reasons you would have simply called him on phone. Wike the Liar! 63 Likes 2 Shares |

If I were the governor I will rather keep quiet than spew this trash. According to the 1999 constitution as amended, the recommendation is to be sent to the NJC and not the CJN. The NJC approves. More so, vacation has nothing to do with the NJC as majority of them remains on sit except for the judges. I'm worried that a governor who is a lawyer does not know what to do. Nyesom is the first sitting governor in Nigeria to have visited the CJN. In few weeks we do hope the tribunal will do the needful. 17 Likes |

Please why is Wike pursuing the CJN upandan Is the CJN owing Wike money or is the man his Father, Uncle, Nephew or Father in Law ni? Or maybe the CJN's ancestors owed Wike's ancestors and the latter has been sent to recover all...... ThinkingOutLoud 10 Likes |

Read this........... [b]143 millions lines are connected today in Nigeria, more than half of that are making use of the internet service on their Smartphones, PC's and Tablets. Almost all of that number use more than 1 gigabyte worth of data monthly. That is, the normal Johnny on the street probably spends an average of #2000 surfing the web every month and #24,000 yearly. The amount goes higher when you move up a level higher to you and me. What are we doing with the data? Just scrolling through pages, viewing pictures and videos or actually doing something that could boost our financial status. While some people may argue that people just want to buy data to do these, i have no problem with that. But i am aware there is no man on the planet who is comfortable with where he is. Human wants are insatiable, thus the hunger for improvement in every sphere of human nature. If you are one of such persons who has gotten to that point where you just don't feel right being on a Trillion Dollar per month platform which is the internet and not even able to make a single dollar off it, then this is for you.. The question we should ask here is if Wicked Wike did visited or did not visit the CJN during tribunal session period and if not He should provide evidence he did not or just rest his case because sooner and very soon he will be booted out of that office and maybe jailed for election result sheet manipulations. I am waiting for the wailers to come and rant the usual witch hunt statement which makes me wonder how many witches will be left in Nigeria the way the wailers are always using this word as an excuse to defend impunity and corruption !!! 7 Likes |
