‘how Politicians Released My Husband’s Alleged Killers From Delta Prison’ by wolesmile(m): 8:49am On Jul 22, 2015 |
The wife of a politician in Ibusa, Delta State, who was allegedly murdered during the last House of Assembly elections, Mrs. Maria Onianwa, has raised alarm over the release from prison custody of one of the suspected killers of her husband by political hirelings in the state. Mrs. Onianwa, who made a clarion call to the powers-that-be to bring killers of her husband to book, lamented that the lives of members of her family and her blind, old father-in-law were in danger following the release of the suspect. She stated that her husband, Emeka Onianwa, died on April 13 as a result of wounds allegedly inflicted on him by a popular socialite in the community (names withheld), his wife and other prominent indigenes of the town during the election. According to the distraught housewife: “It is true that the election petition tribunal has been established for all matters affecting that election but my case is wholly on the gruesome murder of my beloved husband by some politicians in our area. “My husband died as a result of wounds allegedly inflicted on him by those PDP members. As a law- abiding citizen, I and members of my family reported the incident to the Police who on their own, carried out an extensive investigation, but sensing that some of those fingered in the brutal killing of my husband were doing everything possible to deny us justice by collaborating with the state Police Command including some top politicians, we petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and he ordered the immediate transfer of the case to his office in Abuja. “It is pertinent to mention here that all invitations made by the Police in Abuja to all those fingered in the case on several occasions yielded no result as the suspects never honoured the invitations. We honoured the invitations but they did not. Instead, they were going about, boasting that they will use their connections to ensure that the matter is swept under the carpet using names of the state governor and other top politicians as cover-up. “God being our only Helper, we continued to plead that the law takes it course hence, through God’s intervention and the qualitative dispensation of justice by the new Inspector- General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, having looked at the case file, gave directives that all those mentioned or alleged to have been involved in the murder be arrested and charged to a court of competent jurisdiction. Police officers from the Homicide Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, swung into action and made its first arrest of one of the suspects (names withheld) on June 30, 2015. They subsequently arraigned him at the chief magistrate’s court where the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Ferdinand Dike remanded him in Ogwashi-Ukwu prisons until 29th July 2015 pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). “This development was greeted with wild jubilation by both the family members of the murdered youth and a cross section of the people of Ibusa community with praises that the common man can now get justice. While the other politician was arraigned and remanded in Prison custody awaiting the 29th July day for the DPP’s advice, with others still on the run, surprisingly, we were informed some days ago that there were moves by top government functionaries to effect his release. Behold, on the 8th day of July the suspect was released from prison custody at Ogwashi-Ukwu following an alleged directive from the state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, without recourse to the order given by a court of competent jurisdiction. “My worry now and that of my family members including my blind father-in-law is the fact that the corpse of my murdered husband is still lying in the mortuary. Worse is the present pitiable condition I find myself. The children including my two month-old baby, delivered after the brutal killing of Emeka Onianwa, are now left in abject poverty, while the children have been sent out of school. We are using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJF) and other relevant authorities, to come to our aid and ensure that all those involved in the murder of our son, father and husband, Mr. Emeka Onianwa, are made to face the wrath of the law. “We also use this medium to call on all politicians especially, those of Oshimili-North LGA, to see elective positions not as a do-or-die affair, as it is a thing of regret that since the inception of the incumbent House of Assembly member, including the last April elections, the area has noticed and witnessed murder of some persons. For record purposes, one Mr Livy Ajufoh, a vibrant politician was killed, also a cousin to Emeka Onianwa and others died in the same circumstance,” she stated http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/how-politicians-released-my-husbands-alleged-killers-from-delta-prison/#sthash.6Z4cQFRf.dpuf
