Meanwhile, Yar’Adua has taken further steps to quicken the pace of his administration with his approval of the work plans of the ministers who have now been given the marching order and the free hand to implement the policies of the government without recourse to the president.
“The planning for the seven-point agenda spanning about 20 months is over. The President's assent to the budget by the National Assembly (on Wednesday) signals take-off of implementation in earnest,” a minister told THISDAY.
All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), especially critical infrastructure ministries, “are now ready with their work plans comprising time lines and deliverables”, he said.
Henceforth, the Federal Executive Council will deliberate more on progress reports by ministers than requests for approvals.
“To ease monitoring and evaluation, a little more than 90 per cent of the total capital expenditure is pumped into power, transport, commercial agriculture, aviation, works and housing, and petroleum.
“Education, health and police also enjoyed increases in the budget to boost human capital, improve our MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) performance and enhance internal security in most crime-infested cities in the country,” he said.

Awww. . . .the man is so meticulous in his work and approach. He deserves all the applause don't he . . . .  grin grin

After spending 15 out of 20 months in hospital, what do you expect?

If he 'quickens' the pace, maybe he will complete one project by April 2011 - actually declaring the 'emergency'. cheesy

By their actions or inactions you shall know them.

Yar A'dull, I am sorry to say has no vision of his own nor any agenda. and to be frank, the office of the President of Nigeria as many of his predecessors have proven, is way out of his league if a basic international comparable standard is applied.

I dare say that even in African/third world country context Yar A'dull still fall short.

Where can one start. Do anybody remember his election campaign in which he promised to decalare emergency on power within 100 days, we are very close to 700 days and he still haven't figure out that.

Also, this Visionless 2020 nonesense and 7 NO POINT AGENDA stupidity. as they say, you can fool most people most times but not all the time.

Ordinary good connecting roads connecting North west and south and east are not there.

Lagos- Ibadan expressyway which is the gateway to the country commercial city is in shambles, built over 30 years ago and in state of disrepair.

If I were an examiner, and I need to give Mr. President a mark for his performances or lack of it, he would score 15  out 100. The 15 for keeping the country together, zero for doing nothing.

By the way, it is not just the President but his entire team who has not enough courage to give the president a sound advice and resign in protest if he refuses to listen. And what makes it very painful is that there are so many intelligent and brilliant people in this country.

As they say, Allah e dey.

He will spend the next 2 years to deploy it and 2nd or 3rd term to actualize it.

"Slow and steady wins the race", what race are you talking about here?

This clueless man is already so slow to make the tortoise look like the hare (or Usain Bolt), are you guys kidding? Last time I checked, Nigeria still had one president who is running against no one but against himself, and is supposed to be running the country, what is slow and steady got to do with it? He's got the whole tracks to himself with all the resources and yet he is just been on his marks since the "GO" was called in April 2007? Now, he is ready to start, what a joke this do-nothing-president is!

To simplify matters, the competence of any president in a third-world country like Nigeria can be evaluated by counting the number of towns and cities that are supplied with continuous electrical power.

Right now, the entire nation of Nigeria, with the notable exception of Kwara State, remains economically comatose due to a 20-year electrical blackout.  By this basic index, President Yar Adua has been an unmitigated and resounding FAILURE, regardless of how many proposals, white papers, committees, grand initiatives, agendas, projections and state of emergency declarations are regurgitated to appease the rabble.
