Following protests by workers of the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, policemen have taken over the secretariat.

The workers are protesting alleged corrupt practices of the party leaders and they have threatened to drag them to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the protesters, a circular signed by the party’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, conveyed the party’s decision to slash their salary by 50 per cent and reduce the workforce by half.

But the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, vowed to see the matter to a logical conclusion.

The statement reads: “The attention of the NWC has been drawn to the unnecessary and unfortunate reactions of junior, intermediate and supervisory members of staff under the auspices of PDP Staff Welfare Committee in reaction to NWC directive on reorganisation and restructuring of the party.

“The NWC appreciates the concerns of stakeholders and assures members that it will not be deterred in its sworn responsibility to reposition, re-organise and re-structure the party.

“For the purpose of clarity, the process of staff re-organisation is a sub-component of the reform process in the party. Consequently, the NWC affirms that the internal memo emanating from the office of the National Secretary stands.

“The NWC will not be deterred, blackmailed or cowed from taking objective steps necessary for sound political health, astute opposition and general re-organisation.

“NWC assures members and Nigerians that finances of the party have been handled in line with standard financial regulations governing political parties and the Constitution of the PDP.

“Subsequently, as custodians of the PDP Constitution, the NWC will be guided by the provisions of the Constitution in dealing with all matters related to staff, especially schedule IV (staff rules) of the 2012 Constitution as amended”.

The workers and party leaders have been at war since the circular was distributed last Wednesday.

Too early for PDP to be having this crisis just two months out of power.
Soon Metuh will come out and say APC and PMB are responsible for the cricis.

There is no crisis in the PDP. This is a mere labor issue and it will be resolved.

I wonder how a disagreement between workers and employees suddenly became "crisis"

Not broke, they are just restructuring to increase/maximize efficiency. The days of having 5 people doing the work of 2 is no more.

The fall and fall of a party that once boasted of ruling for decades.

While they were witchunting the APC when they were in power by invading their offices under the guise of national security, the APC led government clearly does not need any such flimsy excuses to put forces on the ground inside the PDP Headquarters.

Disagreement between workers and employee is no crisis to you, what is it then?
Does crisis to you mean fighting with knives and guns?
Did you read the petition of the workers to efcc?

Is it capable of fractionalizing the PDP?
How come the workers did not speak out about the alleged fraud before they heard that 50% of them will be fired? They are just disgruntled workers(who have every right to be) hoping to save their jobs hence it is a simple labor issue between employer and employees

I do believe and hope the PDP will settle this ish...these workers are humans with families and they are about to be sacked while those not sacked will have their pay cut not a good thing.

As for the PDP falling, I hope they don't oooo. Nigeria needs a good opposition party, KOWA cannot provide that so the PDP should sort out their issues

The PDP seems fundamentally flawed as a party. 16 years of impunity and corruption has permeated its fabric and only a transformative change can rescue that party. It created an ecosystem of fraud and lawlessness which enabled it to thrive, but that system is falling with PMB's emergence. All in all, I agree a virile opposition is needed.

The thing you don't know is that the success of President Buhari is tied with the PDP.

If the PDP falls, believe me, this present administration will fall not because the president is a PDP man but because there will be no opposition.

You say President Jonathan was bad? Imagine President Jonathan without APC/ACN
