Lap 17: Webber stops cleanly for medium tyres and comes out behind Vettel and in front of Massa. The German will have to stop again of course; and Webber can now hold off the Ferrari to help out his team-mate. It's starting to rain a bit now. Drama time! Massa may just be able to nick 2nd place at best but a win os looking increasingly unlikely given Red Bull's pace (Webber has the fastest lap for now)
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:21pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 15: Final round of pitstops have started, Massa pits and drops to 7th.
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:30pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 10: Button finally overtakes barichello thanks to a faster pit! However, Massa is now ahead of them and will not stop again. The Red Bulls are still up in front!! Hamilton? last and watching everyone else lap him, sad cry
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:33pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 7: M. Webber is 15 seconds clear of S. Vettel in second who also has almost 5 seconds on F. Massa in third. Definitely a Red Bull one-two unless disaster strikes. Seems the Bramn GP lead on both the Drivers and construction's table will be cut again.
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:37pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 4: With the front standing as good as confirmed, Alonso is now attacking the Brawn car who both have tire problems now and are dropping off gradually, Nico Rosberg stays in fourth place and now seems to be under less pressure from both Barichello and J. Button
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:41pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 3: J. Button escapes Alonso's advances and leaves barichello to deal with him, just 2 laps to go for Alonso to improve his 7th palce standing. Mark Webber is still cruising in front with his partner in second, Massa third. Lewis Hamilton is just enjoying the view now and wasting valuable fule for the next race grin grin grin grin
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 2:44pm On Jul 12, 2009
Lap 0: Mark Webber wins the German GP in 1:36:43.310, this is also his first grand prix win and the first by an aussie in 30 years. Everyone else is still out with Barcichello being advised to watch out for Alonso behind him. Red Bull is making this year's F1 a contest again!!!!!

Lewis Hamilton clocked the quickest lap of the day during the second practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
McLaren's world champion left it late with a lap 0.047 seconds faster than team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, who had topped the morning timesheets.

A low-key day for Brawn's Jenson Button ended with the championship leader posting the 13th fastest time.

Alonso grabs shock Hungary pole

Fernando Alonso grabbed pole for Renault in a chaotic qualifying session that was delayed when Felipe Massa crashed head on into a tyre wall.

The session ended in confusion after a computer timing system failed leaving drivers unsure of their final places.

Eventually it emerged that Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber would start second and third in Budapest.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton qualified in a season's best fourth position while Brawn's Jenson Button was eighth.

Massa was airlifted to hospital after his crash and his Ferrari team have confirmed that the 28-year-old's condition is "stable".

BMW to quit F1 at end of season
BMW will withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of this season.

The German car manufacturer supply engines to Sauber but have cited "current developments in motor sport" as the reason for their pull-out.

BMW are the second major manufacturer to leave the sport in eight months after Honda's withdrawal in December.

Schumacher returning to F1

Seven times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher will replace injured driver Felipe Massa at Ferrari if he passes a fitness test, the team have said. The German, now 40 years old, retired from Formula One at the end of 2006 but all being well will make his comeback in Valencia next month.

"Ferrari intends to entrust Michael Schumacher with Felipe Massa's car for as long as the Brazilian driver is not able to race," the Italian team said in a statement.

"Michael Schumacher has shown his willingness and in the next few days he will undergo a specific programme of preparation at the end of which it will be possible to confirm his participation in the championship starting with the European Grand Prix on August 23."

That race is one of the few Schumacher is unfamiliar with since the Spanish street circuit was added to the calendar only last season.

Schumacher's comeback for the reigning champions will be a huge boost for Formula One organisers as well as local fans, who could be without home hero Fernando Alonso after his Renault team were suspended for one race.

But really, it should be fun.

So so long away from the circuit, no testing, no prior racing experience at Valencia and some other new tracks will really count against him. It's actually going to be a big ask of him. Either way, the sport will get some of its glamour back. Man, I can't wait to see him race. Jensen Button is of the opinion also that it's nearly too big a task for him given the amount of revolutionary changes that the sport has undergone in the last 3 years and the new buncha drivers won't let him any breathing space. I don't see him making too much of an impact though.
Re: Formula 1 Grandprix 2009 by Phony200(m): 8:32pm On Jul 30, 2009
World championship leader Jenson Button has hailed Michael Schumacher for taking up the challenge of replacing Felipe Massa - but feels the German faces a no-win situation.

Schumacher, 40, retired from Formula One in 2006 and took up a role as an adviser for Ferrari, but he has agreed to return to the track on a temporary basis after Massa fractured his skull in qualifying for the Hungarian grand prix at the weekend.

And although Button says he is delighted to see Schumacher return, he believes his status as an all-time great could raise expectations to uncomfortable levels.

"It will be good to have Michael back out there racing again," he said.

"There are very good people out there racing at the moment but to have Michael there again will be very special, although I'm sure we all wish Felipe was there also.

"It's a strange situation because the reason for Michael being there is because another driver can't take part.

"In a way, Ferrari are very lucky because they've someone working in their team who can jump straight into the car and be competitive - and Michael will be.

"It's an interesting one, though, because, if he wins, people will say they expected him to and, if he doesn't, they will say he should not have come back.

"So it's a tough position for him to be in, although I'm happy he has taken up the challenge. It's very brave of him."

Schumacher has been allowed to practice with a 2007 car. This is normally not allowed as inseason testing has been banned. However, since tigh is not a regular situation, he's being allowed to familiarise himself with the Valencia track. How this inability to drive the race car itself will impact on his condition remains to be seen but this still remains a very much anticipated comeback attempt.

Michaels return is just a move to console brooding fans by blackhorse.
In my opinion, neither he nor a recovered Massa'll be able to propel them back to championship material. The car is still good, but What's a horse without a rider ?
Massa could be compensated with a role in the pits when/if he returns grin . The long term solution to blackhorse's problem is the anticipated Rossi switch to F1. Believe me That'll be the biggest story in motorsports in this generation. The boost'll be immense for the Italians.
Talking about BM leaving f1 being a threat's a big joke. Believe me dont be surprised when teams like Tata and Kia come in to fill those vacancies. It's about time f1 get a real global representation. If Brazilians can make it in f1 without any major car makers then the Asians should do just fine with money and technology behind them.
Besides the decision of that pervert to leave the board'll restore some dignity to the sport. But as for me, i await the arrival of the Emperor of Rome.

Schumacher calls off F1 comeback

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has abandoned his comeback with Ferrari because of a neck injury.

The 40-year-old, who retired at the end of 2006, was set to deputise for the injured Felipe Massa at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on 23 August.

"Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello," Schumacher told his website.

Veteran Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer will now stand in for Massa.
