chigoizie7: The Igbo tribe is too brilliant to be held down by the flimsy excuse. Why not liaise with Akwa Ibom n bring in a capable investor just like Lagos did, solicit a licence from the FG because hate Speeches won't earn you one and let this people build and manage the port till they recoup their investment. Do I need to do cost analysis and contract terms of the Lekki port before you can come up with such. |

Ofodirinwa: True talk! But one reason why people flock to Lagos to live and work, is due to the poor infrastructure in many places outside Lagos, which stifles trade and investment opportunities in those areas. If we had a safe, reliable and efficient multi-modal transportation system (e.g. road, rail, air and ferry services) linking all parts of Nigeria in an effective manner, such that you can be in any city in Nigeria within a maximum of two hours, why would everyone still want to live in Lagos??! People would just live outside Lagos, and simply commute into the city when it is absolutely necessary. Afterwards, they could then decide to go back to their place. Apart from that, the availability of safe efficient transport system connecting the hinterland to the cities, would also open up the hinterland and suburbs, and jump start trade or business opportunities in those areas. Someone once said that there is hardly any state in Nigeria, that does not have one solid mineral or the other available in commercial quantity, that can be exported for cash. Honestly, our leaders need to think out of the box. if there was an efficient rail system connecting every city in Nigeria, I would simply live in Minna, Lafia or Lokoja and commute. 2 Likes

regulate zoning
distribute multiple central business districts
so that everyone isn't moving in the same direction during rush hour
basically creating mini cities within the city
it's a port
heck it's THE port and hence will always be highly populated
unless we stop import and export |

ayokellany: There is a functional deep sea port at Onne. Will they use it?? No! Their excuse is that the militants operate in that axis, it is concessioned to a private firm, and clearance charges in Onne are higher than Lagos. Like I asked on another thread, why not form a pressure group to govt and ask for a review of the charges? Also, isn't it possible for the importers to liaise with security agencies and community leaders to resolve the issue about the militants?? There is another deep sea port being planned for Ibaka near Akwa Ibom. Calabar port is there as well, but needs to be dredged regularly. Koko in Sapele axis also has ports, but the facilities need to be upgraded and their waters also need dredging. |

bugzbunny: Relocate multinational offices to other parts of the country? Why?? Most of these multinational HQs already have operational depots, offices and factories in other parts of the country. Decisions about where to site the headquarters of a multi-national office, depends on a variety of factors. Well, if you can also help to upgrade facilities in those other parts of the country, to make it convenient for the multinational HQs to function there just as easily as they do in Lagos, why not?? 1 Like |

ibedun: you wrote as if you dont want lagos to be decongested. What do you want? A situation where lagos retains its 'monopoly of good features' courtesy of FG and the yorubas lay claim to it like some tribal sacred land? |
Re: How To Decongest Lagos-pat Utomi by Nobody: 6:37am On Oct 02, 2015 |
kettykin:your aim for all of these is to hurt the yorubas which will never happen. The FCT was moved from lagos to Abuja, did that stop lagos from developing further? Lagos is too developed for you to think a seaport elsewhere will make people relocate. If 10 men relocate, 50 will move in. kettykin:who are you to tell them where to situate their business? Who sent you to start a civil war that chased them out? Who sent militants to kidnap them making them flee? Mind you, these guys want a conducive place, not some village. kettykin:you guys just want to be spoon fed. You think you can just sit somewhere and order these foreigners about? Oh, you want them to be kidnapped abi? kettykin:the FG should do what? Didn't you have the FG in your pockets for 6yrs? Wasn't the Aviation minister your daughter for 6yrs? Why didn't your FG do the above things for you? You now want a gorro chewing kunnu sipping president to do them. Mind you, there's an airport in enugu. Why hasn't more than half of visitors left? Instead they flock in in thousands kettykin:story 3 Likes 1 Share |

ayokellany: They know the right thing to do but you know what? they think its better to cry and whine about marginalization, imagine the geopolitical zones that are warming the bed of the federal government in the last 16 years claiming underdevelopment and marginalization. The simple summary here is that sense is not so common, and selfishness is their watch word, where is all their federal allocations? I HOPE ITS NOT IN TINUBU'S BANK ACCOUNT?. When people choose the way of perdition they blame others for their woes, abeg its too early in the morning for me to start firing from my WMD . 2 Likes 1 Share |

bugzbunny: You are on the right track. One of the major problems with Lagos at the moment is that everything is concentrated there. in the 70's and 80's there were operational ports in Warri, Sapple, PH, Calabar, Koko.... somehow they were all allowed to die and only Lagos still functions. How can a massive country like Nigeria operate only 1 major Seaport? Revamping some of these ports will decrease the pressure on Lagos and also spread economic activities across the Nation. 1 Like |

kettykin: All you said is on point except the bold. Why should you force anyone to relocate its headquarters?? It should be a freewill thing. The FGN can only advise but not force. Forcing companies to relocate out of Lagos will be counter productive. If I have a company mining gold in Gombe, the fact that my mine is in Gombe does not mean I have to compulsorily site my headquarters in Gombe. I can decide to have my headquarters in Kaduna to coordinate all my mines in different parts of the country. Forcing me to site my headquarters in a particular place is highly dictatorial, and will be counterproductive. The places companies site their headquarters is for convenience sake on the part of the company depending a lot of factors. 2 Likes 1 Share |
