1. The police officers who stepped in after the bride's father was killed on duty

Kirsten Mundell's father Kent was killed in the line of duty in 2009. When she got married six years later, other officers stepped in for her dad on the big day. And when they did, there "wasn't a dry eye in the room."

Mundell, a deputy with the Pierce Country Sheriff's office, was fatally shot in 2009, but Kirsten made sure he had a presence at her wedding nonetheless. She set aside a chair for him in the front row at her ceremony in Bonney Lake, Washington, which was adorned with his picture and jacket. The back of her wedding dress was tied together with a blue string symbolizing the "thin blue line" that police use to honor fallen officers.

Don Jones, a detective with the Seattle Police Department, walked her down the aisle and was her partner for the first dance. Then another officer cut in. Then another. And another.

2.The father of the bride who stopped the wedding so her stepdad could join him in walking their daughter up the aisle

Photographer Delia Blackburn was preparing to photograph 21-year-old Brittany Peck's walk down the aisle at her Elyria, Ohio, wedding when Peck's biological father, Todd Bachman, stole the show.

Bachman, who split from Peck's mother in 2000, drove his daughter to the outdoor ceremony in a decorated golf cart. When they got to the point in which he was supposed to walk her down the aisle, Bachman instead left his daughter by the golf cart. He grabbed the hand of Peck's stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, who was sitting close by with other family members and brought him to the place Brittany was standing. (Cendrosky married Peck's mother in 2003 and had helped raise her.) Together, they walked her the rest of the way.

The emotional pictures of the touching moment, which include a black and white shot of the two dads with their arms around each other, have been shared thousands of times online.

3. The dad who fulfilled his dying wish—to walk all four of his children down the aisle

A terminally ill father's emotional request to walk all four of his children down the aisle was granted after doctors said he'd most likely miss their wedding days due to his prognosis.

Tammy McHugh said it was April 2010 when her husband Ken was diagnosed with stage four neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer at age 42. Now, five years later, she said doctors are recommending that he discontinue treatment and instead focus on living out his final days in comfort.

When Ken, now 47, was confronted with questions regarding his last wishes, he replied, "I have to walk them (his children) down the aisle.'"

With the help of Team CMMD, a Pennsylvania-based cancer foundation, Ken was able to walk his daughters, Samantha, 19, Julia, 15, Kathryn, 14, and son, Dylan, 17, down the aisle in what they dubbed "the family wedding." The elder McHughs also renewed their vows with the kids serving as witnesses.

4. The paralyzed father who was able to stand at his daughter's wedding thanks to a robotic suit.

A tetraplegic man thrilled his daughter by standing to make the father of the bride speech at her wedding—thanks to a special robotic suit.

Irving Caplan, 56, has been confined to a wheelchair since crashing his bicycle in Edgware, north London, in October 2012.

Caplan left many guests at his daughter Joanne's wedding in tears as he rose on his own, walked across the hotel dance floor, grabbed the microphone and gave his speech.

The IT consultant—who broke three vertebrae as the result of a collision with a stationary truck on his way to work—wore a Rex Bionics exoskeleton suit controlled by a joystick, 29 microprocessors and 10 high-speed actuators to the wedding at Sopwell House, St Albans.

6. The parents who surprised their wedding guests with a choreographed dance to "Happy"

This family decided to liven things up a bit. They surprised their guests with a choreographed dance to Pharrell's "Happy." One minute they're doing the obligatory parent/child slow-dance to an acoustic rendition of "Here Comes the Sun," and then BAM—it's on, complete with synchronized clapping, finger shaking, and leg shimmying.

7. The father who wrote an emotional letter to his daughter with Down syndrome on her wedding day

A loving father wrote a touching tribute to his daughter with Down syndrome on her wedding day, praising her for her achievements and wishing her a long and happy life with her husband-to-be.

While the blushing bride, Jillian, was upstairs getting ready to say "I do" to her love of 10 years, her dad, Paul Daugherty, 57, a sports columnist for the Cincinnati Enquirer, was writing the 25-year-old a beautiful letter. He detailed how he used to cry over his fear that she wouldn't be accepted by her peers—a fear, he added, that has gone unfounded.

Jillian married her longtime sweetheart, Ryan. They met while playing on a soccer team for teens with disabilities over a decade ago.

Read the full letter below:

In two hours, you will take the walk of a lifetime, a stroll made more memorable by what you've achieved to get to this day. I don't know what the odds are of a woman born with Down syndrome marrying the love of her life. I only know you've beaten them. What we couldn't do was make other kids like you. Accept you, befriend you, stand with you in the vital social arena. We thought, What's a kid's life if it isn't filled with sleepovers and birthday parties and dates to the prom?

I worried about you then. I cried deep inside on the night when you were 12, and you came downstairs to declare, “I don't have any friends.''

We all wish the same things for our children. Health, happiness and a keen ability to engage and enjoy the world are not only the province of typical kids. Their pursuit is every child's birthright. I worried about your pursuit, Jillian.

I shouldn't have. You're a natural when it comes to socializing. They called you 'The Mayor' in elementary school, for your ability to engage everyone. You danced on the junior varsity dance team in high school. You spent four years attending college classes and made lifelong impressions on everyone you met.

Do you remember all the stuff they said you'd never do, Jills? You wouldn't ride a two-wheeler or play sports. You wouldn't go to college. You certainly wouldn't get married. Now look at you.

8. The father of the bride who was killed while performing a flyover at daughter's wedding reception

Not all surprises go as planned. In July 2015, a day of celebration quickly turned to tragedy when an Alaskan man performing a surprise flyover at his daughter's wedding reception died when his plane crashed.

Michael Zagula, 54, had earlier performed the ceremony at his daughter's wedding to a man he is said to have treated like a son.

About half the town of Trapper Creek, Alaska, some 120 miles north of Anchorage, was at the reception. Zagula posed for photographs with the happy couple at the cake cutting before slipping away.

"About 20 minutes later his plane was flying over, and he loved to fly, so he wanted to do something special for the kids," Klondike Hughes, a friend of Zagula's, said. Zagula flew over the party, and as he was returning, clipped the trees and lost control of the aircraft. Many of the guests either witnessed or heard the crash.
