Following the upsurge of clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities across the country, the Department of State Security has brokered peace parley between the leadership of Afenifere and Miyetti Allah Cattle Rearers Association over the frosty relationship between the two groups in the South West.

The Director of DSS in Osun State, Mr. Andrew Iorkay, according to a source organised the peace meeting following the growing tension between the leadership of Afenifere and Fulani herdsmen.

The action of the DSS in the state may not be unconnected with the recent abduction of Chief Olu Falae and altercations between the leadership of the pan Yoruba group, the Afenifere and the Fulani pastoralists.

The source said the DSS boss did not want the situation to degenerate among the two groups in Osun State hence the peace meeting.

Ondo: Police Initiate Peace Move Between Farmers, Herdsmen

In an effort to ensure harmonious coexistence, the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force at the weekend initiated a peace move between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mike Ogbodu, who played host to the president and executive members of the Miyetti Allah, the umbrella body of Fulani cattle rearers, stressed the need for a cordial relationship to exist between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen in all parts of the state for peace to reign.

He said the visit by the leadership of Miyetti Allah would further enhance cordial relationship between the state Police command and the security outfit, which would in turn result in proper security of lives and properties in the state.

Ogbodu who hailed the co-operation of all the security outfits in the state, said policing could not only be done by security operatives alone and urged all individuals to support the Police to ensure thorough security of lives and properties.
