The continuous fuel scarcity rocking the country could take a new turn as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are bracing up for a nationwide showdown over the inability of the nation’s oil company to solve the recurring fuel shortage bedeviling the nation. ayuba wabba ii Comrade Ayuba Wabba, president Nigeria Labour Congress This call is coming against the backdrop of the country’s unfavourable economic situations which has been aggravated by the continuous petrol shortage and high transportation fares Nigerians pay to get to their work places. READ ALSO: Fuel Subsidy Removal Divides Senators Reports have it that some executive members of the union are involved in constant meetings in order to inform other members regarding the strike action. Also, the workers will make their plight known to the national executive council of the nation’s foremost labour body. This will further inform the labour leaders on the need to take urgent actions as per the welfare of the workers in relation to the hardship caused by the fuel scarcity. One of the senators representing Abia state, Eyinnaya Abaribe has also spoken about the lingering fuel shortage. He urged the upper chambers to summon President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the Senate and explain the reasons for the lingering scarcity in the country. On Tuesday, November 24, some unnamed labour leaders who spoke with newsmen issued a warning that if an immediate solution is not provided to end the scarcity issue on time, the possibility of a nationwide strike is in no doubt. They said the reason for this impending showdown is to end the hardship of the poor citizens. In his statements regarding worker’s condition, Comrade Waheed Olojede who heads NLC in Oyo state said the continuous fuel scarcity crisis is a national disaster. Olojede advised all tiers of the government to quickly do something in order to end the recurring petrol shortage. He emphasised that it has put the workers in difficult situation. The Oyo state labour leader further stated that workers in the state are unable to go to work anymore due to hike in transport fares. He added that the multiplier effect on the workers’ financial strength is enormous, especially when their salaries cannot be guaranteed on a monthly basis. https://www.naij.com/648111-nlc-ready-nationwide-protest-fuel-scarcity-crisis.html 1 Like |

I dare them to embark on the protest. 1st January, 2013 when the golden-hearted Goodluck Jonathan attempted to remove fuel subsidy, we did not buy fuel as expensive as we currently do, but NLC didn't allow a few days to pass before organising protests in different cities of the country. In 2015, the crunch bites even harder, oil price globally is lower, a situation that is supposed to crash the fuel price further down, but NLC are waiting and watching. It is even too late already...
No fuel
No power
No salary
No food at home
No job rather their is heavy job loss
No assurance or action from NNPC or FG
No National address from APC or Presidency
So how do workers cope? Why has the strike not started already?
What is NLC still waiting for?
Is NLC now compromised? |

Opinedecandid: Exactly my point... 2013, NLC where all over the media houses, criticising and threatening the FG... But now, they're contemplating on whether to protest or not! Same way the senate can't summon the president aka minister of petroleum for questioning... Nobody really knows anything about this dictatorial administration.... Even the so called minister of information is always misinformed by the former WAECless general... 2 Likes |
