Amaju fingers Rangers, Chime reacts
Tragedy struck Nigerian football yesterday when Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Oroboa Adun, slumped and died during their morning training.

Shortly after this, Delta FA chairman, Amaju Pinnick, called to break the sad news and recalled the violence that stopped their league encounter with Enugu Rangers at Nnewi on Sunday.

The match could not go on when fracas ensued just as players and match officials were filing out.

“Rangers were at home and failed to provide the needed security for the match to proceed,” Amaju bemoaned Sunday evening as their team returned to their base.

“There was violence and we couldn’t play. Thugs harassed us and we had to leave,” Amaju said. The league board had ordered that the match be played yesterday at same venue but without fans.

Amaju said that they had protested against that decision and that their team were already back to Oleh training. It was however during the morning training yesterday that Oroboa slumped and died. “He was hit during the violence and that caused his death,” Amaju said yesterday while condemning Rangers’ fans and the league board.

“This is bad for our league, it is unfortunate and not acceptable,” Amaju cried.Rangers spokesman Foster Chime reacted this way yesterday: “It is sad to hear that the goalkeeper of Warri Wolves died this morning. The match on Sunday was not played because there was a thug who confronted the cameraman of Warri Wolves and fracas resulted from it. I had gone for the team list when it happened and did not witness it. By the time I came out the Warri team were already leaving.

They told me what happened. I would plead that we remain calm and the autopsy made to find out the cause of death. No Rangers supporter hit anybody. Enugu is our home but we are playing at Nnewi because of the construction going on at the stadium in Enugu. Sometimes you have rascals at Nnewi but they are not our fans. We did not attack Warri Wolves and their supporters.”

Amaju countered and said that the player died of injuries he suffered during the violence and condemned the state of security at the Nnewi Stadium.“It is possible he had internal bleeding following the violence on Sunday but he didn’t know until it was late,” Solomon Ogba, former commissioner of sports in Delta State said.
