@ Romeo, some one gave me a step counter and asked me to try and hit 10000 steps every day. I want to find out if intensity does matter. Do I have to walk briskly all the time or I can just go around strolling. @ modath how are u? You no longer post your logs? Pls how can I get to that shopping plaza you talked about. I need to change my wardrobe. @Sammi - Of course the intensity does matter. The more intense, the more calories burned. This is not to say it will not be beneficial if the walking is not intense. Any exercise is better than no exercise. Do what you can. Try to up the intensity, or increase the number of steps over time. |

@Modath - This could be due to a variety of things. Do u feel any pain in the area? If not, it could simply be bloating on that side. Worst case scenario would be a Hernia. Get a 2nd opinion and have a doctor rule that out. |

@Coxty - It would be greatly inconveniencing to repeat all that i have said over time, as it is all on the threads, but as a rule of thumb, you need to implement a sustainable diet and exercise plan. To loose weight, you will need to burn more calories that you are ingesting. Eat 3 meals a day without fail - cut out all unnecessary fats/oils/sugar/soft drinks/confectioneries/sweeties from your diet. Eat more complex carbs, fruit and vegetables, cook with less oil, eat less meat and more fish, and drink more water. You will need to plan your meals in advance - this will stop you from eating just anything. You can exercise at home if you cannot jog due to security reasons or have no access to a gym. Implement a consistent regime of high reps star jumps, squats, lunges, press ups, etc for this. You will need to be motivated and extremely consistent for this to work. Speak with Modath and Aladunni for more information on a plan including these exercises. Hope this helps. |

@Sammie, I am doing great? I no longer post my log for two reasons 1. There is basically no difference or let me say there is just a slight variation in my meal on a day to day basis. 2. I don’t want to discourage people who have cheat meals now and then, but I can fill you in for yesterday [estimated] I did 30mins of jog/sprint /walk, 15 mins of step ups [on a ten inch staircase] then 15 mins of strength training [squats, lunges and core training] B==Beans and Wheat bread L==Eba and vegetable D==Rice and chicken I snacked on garden egg and blended strawberry and banana smoothie. Today, I had amala and vegetable before church and snacked on garri and groundnut some few minutes ago, will soon have lunch cos am still hungry. A for sunny land, its in balogun very close to Great Nigeria house and shittabey court and not far from mandilas. Just ask from people around someone will definitely oblige, @Romeo, I don't feel any pain whatsoever and the doctors that checked me ruled out hernia,i will go to National hospital for a final opinion,but i never had it when my bulge was at its worst,its just now that my stomach is looking better,its starting to feel like it could be loose skin. |

Sammiejo:I'm fine. I dare not write my food logs but I'm really trying to make healthy food choices and incorporate as much fruits in my diet as possible. Also I eat a lot of vegetables. Tomorrow I want to get a basin of oranges and a pawpaw |

my logs for last week 6/12/2010 B: boiled irish potatoes with stew L: one moi moi with a portion of cole slaw D: fist size eba with oha soup and 2 pieces of meat. water: snacks: handful of chin chin, 2.5 slices of bread water: over 2.5 litres excercise: None, when i am home alone with my son, i can hardly do anything.he wouldnt allow me to leave him alone for a second. 7/12/2010 B: 3 servings of beans and rice L: all i had access to was chewing gum so there was no unch for me. I had 2 slices of bread at 6pm cos i was too hungary to wait for dinner. D:2 servings of yam porridge with lots of vegetable between 8:15 and 8:35. water: over 3 litres snacks: nil excercise: 50 minutes on the cross trainer 8/12/2010 B: 3 servings of yam porridge with vegetables L: 4 slices of bread D: 2 servings of rice with boiled irish potatoes and a piece of meat and fish snacks: water:over 2.5 litres exercise 50 mins on the elliptical cross trainer 9/12/2010 BF: 2 servings of rice with 3 boiled potatoes and a piece of fish L:3 servings of boiled irish potatoes with stew and a piece of fish D: 4 small pieces of yam with egg sauce snacks: 2 garden eggs with a handful of peanuts, 3 cracker biscuit with a very small quantity of cereal,a handful of chin chin water: over 2 litres 10/12/2010 BF: 5 slices of bread with peanuts and water L: 1 serving of pasta, 2 garden eggs with peanuts D: fistsize size semovita with oha soup and a piece of meat snacks: 2 garden eggs with a handful of peanuts, 4 pieces of cracker biscuit water:over 3 litres 11/12/2010 BF: 1 superpack of indomie with a alittle chips and egg by the side (ate very little peanuts and a little milk before my excercise in the morning) L:1.5 servings of beans with garri (had late lunch at 5:30pm) D: more peanuts with a 1.5 cups of home made zobo drink(took this after workout) snacks:a handful of peanuts, excercise: 1 hour on the elliptical cross trainer in the morning evening 30 minutes on the cross trainer, 4 sets of 10 reps of jumping jack bench dips: 1 set of 10 reps side bends: 2 sets of 10 reps for each side dumbell rows: 1 set of 10 reps for each side dumbell chest flies: 4 set of 10 reps reverse crunches: 2 sets of 10 reps 12/12/2010 BF: 2 slices of bread with peanuts L:2 servings of jollof rice with 1 medium size moi moi and an egg D:1 serving of bean with a big cup of garri snacks: 1 garden egg with peanuts, 3 small candies Water: over 2 litres excercise: morning: 50 minutes on the elliptical machine. evening:50 minutes on the elliptical cross trainer. current weight (as at 12/12/2010): 92kg |

@Coxty, I am and will always be at your service,but its difficult to know what to proffer cos you have not done any of what we asked.okay lets start afresh==can we know your height, current and past weight[within the last three months] and the kind of food you like to eat. @Mightlove, I am humbled,thank you so much,anything you want to know am always ready and eager to step to the plate.i have also discovered a new strength training/cardio mix[stair step ups] that has been kicking my butts for the last few weeks. Did you check out Rikkielle's weightloss journey blog on spark people.com as i posted sometime ago,pls try and do so,it will put some things in better perspective.she is my motivation. |

@Nonny, welcome back,have everything in moderation and make sure you dont slack off on your workout[especially this December 'dying minutes''] in short ,all you need to do is just continue the way you have been doing but because of all the goodies available at this time of the year and taking into account the kind of community structure and the need to celebrate with our peeps,have everything in moderation and expect to gain about 2kg but get back on your grind in the new year. That is my plan though,cos am spending the season with my in-laws. N.B==am traveling with skipping rope and mat. |

@Sammie, I just step up and down the bottom stair in my house, i do it in intervals, i put the right leg up ,left leg up,right leg down and then left leg down, i do it and then alternate the leading leg,i count 1 through 50,switch it up,then take a 2-3 minutes breather, i do it 2x,then do the third set with dumb bells in my hand,which i do overhead press with.i do it thrice in a week,and i love it cos i can feel the muscles in my legs tightening up when am doing it, and even though my thigh is looking bigger,it is firmer and has a noticeable cut/definition,it has also helped my mid section cos i feel its tightening up too. Sammie,i lost fat not because my BODY was tired of being overweight but cos my MIND didn't let up, i am not about to regain any fat weight,i may regain water weight at any point in time but i will not gain fat[if i can help it] i am taking the rope[cardio] and my mat [for planks and push ups,] so i can be on top of my game, i was advised on this thread by the great peeps to relax my guard and not always be rigid about food rules when am in the company of people so i can maintain relationships., i am adhering to it but still applying caution. I am so in love with myself that i will continue to maintain it for as long as God allows. @Romeo, How you doing?my lower body stats Calf==14" Upper thigh===24.5 and Mid thigh is 22", but my bum is still holding on to its 41". ROMEO, I don't want any of these stat to go lower than this maybe at most an inch cos i love the way skinny jeans fits,am i delusional. |

modath: modath, that Rikkielle lady is something else. i was so shocked when i went through her blog and am even more motivated now. mine, i cant believe her size when she started and her size as at her sparkversary. now when ever i feel discouraged or down, i will just logon and read through her success and her story. meeeeeeeen, i will reach my goal weight oh, i am more determined than ever now. and the idea of travelling with a skipping roap is a good one cos i decided long ago that i would do that. i am going to spend the christmas with my in-laws too.i dont give a damn what anyone has to say, i will do my thing. |

Snack 1 pkt of plantain chips + 1 tiny banana D 2 boiled fingers of unripe plantain. Water 2L + Exercise Nil. |

@Modath - Keep up the motivational talks for the peeps here. Its great! I think people just have to come to the realization that healthy living is supposed to be a way of life; Not something you do because you want to lose weight, get fit for summer, fit into that dress, etc. There is no respite, as this way of life permeates everything you do. I travel every where with my Trigger Point Grid Roller, Protein shakes and Boxing gloves. If i cannot find a gym, i have a weekly routine of squats, lunges, shoulder exercises and press-ups i go through. I use stools and chairs as dumbbells for my Delts - side raises, and i shadow box almost every morning. Some people may see it as an obsession, but eating more food than you need, on a consistent basis, until it becomes a health problem is also a kind of obsession. Regarding the playa haters, i say ignore them. You cannot compromise on a way of life, that's beneficial to you, just because you want to maintain a relationship. They are simply jealous; and they know they can never muster the amount of determination and motivation that it takes. If you don't want your stats to go lower, simply keep doing what ur doing. It takes as much effort to maintain a given weight as it takes to lose weight. Keep your diet, intensity and number of days constant, and you will maintain what u have. |

@Romeo, Thank you ,you are always a lifesaver.Its only my lower body stats i don't want to lose,cos it has provided a kind of balance for my slightly chunkier upper body, I'd absolutely love if i can take the measurement around my lower belly to 34",right now its at 36.5" but since i know i can never spot reduce i will take whatever i get and i know squats and lunges will give me a firm and tight lower body. As for coxty,the jury is still out. |
