The Sacred Cow; Asari Dokubo Arrested Again. by Nobody: 5:08pm On Jun 24, 2009
Is it true that Asari Dokubo; founder of Niger Delta volunteer force (NDVF) has been re-arrested by the FG's security operative; SSS? This rumor is coming in the wake of the FG's move to grant amnesty to MEND and co.

If this is true, does it mean that the FG is trying to escalate the crisis in the ND, knowing full well how influential Asari can be to militants and some nigerians?

Any link to this effect?

Leaders of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo has been arrested. He was arrested on Tuesday evening at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos shortly after returning from a trip to Germany.

Asari-Dokubo had traveled to Frankfurt for medical checkup on May 23 and returned home on an Alitalia flight at about 8.00 p.m.
Shortly after his arrival, officials of the State Security Service (SSS) picked the ex-militant leader up at about 8.30 p.m, seized his passport and his telephones and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

The reason for the arrest could not be determined as at press time, just as destination of the ex-militant leader after he was whisked away from the airport.

Reacting to the arrest, Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo described it as “a totally negative approach to the issue of amnesty for the Niger Delta militants.”
Keyamo said Asari-Dokubo was not a militant, contending that his arrest belied the Federal Government’s claim to resolve the Niger Delta crisis.
“I call on the Federal Government to immediately release him. There’s no justifiable cause to arrest him,” the lawyer said.
