How hard is it for to get photo updates? Do we not have Nairalanders who live in Asaba or Onitsha? |
Re: pictures-Asaba International Airport Project (under Construction) by ezeagu(m): 5:37pm On Jul 18, 2011 |
EzeUche: Nigerians don't think like that, that's why it's hard to find images of Nigerian cities filled with millions of people. I believe this need to document also comes with a modern mindset, and Nigerians have ancient, tribal, primitive mindsets (eat, sleep, reproduce) no matter how much education they have. Have you ever seen a packed Nigerian museum? |

zinco: i can see that my state is going be one of the best in the country. if militants will not be an obstacle ^^^Hehehe . I guess you spoke too soon. ezeagu: ^^^You forgot 'shi.t', one of the most basic functions of man (eat, shi.t, sleep, reproduce). Close to three years now, yet that 'Mr Bean' is yet to complete a basic Airport . I tire!!! When you consider Heathrow T5 was built in about the same time, you begin to understand how useless we can be atimes. And another issue that irks me is the astronomical cost of this project, which is still growing as we speak . I bet Akpabio would have finished this Airport by now and at a much lower cost. The Governor pulled wool over Deltans eyes last year (during election time) making a play of commissioning it for commencement of operations, yet up till today it's not fully complete. I suppose he didn't know at the time that he will have to blow up a couple of nearby hills so large aircraft (and we're not talking Airbus a360 here ) would be able to land. You couldn't make it up . Incompetence and waste have just taken a new meaning. |

Or maybe it was 'network failure' or 'dropped call' issues . The mind boggles walahi . |

PROUD-IGBO: Please o, when did lack of communication with control tower resort to "averted plane crash"? Here we go again with Sahara Reporters and their junk, like seriously? Besides, WTF will you be hovering around an airport for three hour and more before diversion? When TRACON gave them sequence for initial and final approach, YET when the called the airport, no response, shouldn't they have requested for an alternate immediately from TRACON? Besides, wouldn't their on-board fuel or its reserve be almost done by the time you're don circling around the airport? This is the reason why if Arik hires all foreign pilots, people will complain but here you have two fat black Nigerian pilots thinking with their a/ss. |

^^^Thanks Calloti. Nice one. 40 Billion Naira is roughly $260 Million Dollars, and that (what's shown in Callotis pics) is what you get for that amount. The fact of the matter is that Deltans have been sold a dummy, and it's no more than they deserve (same thing i say with Abians). I've attached a few pics of the newly constructed Oliver Thambo Airport in Cape Town (constructed for the world cup tournament). It was built for about $900 Million. Compare the pics and amount with what you see for Asaba and tell me if Asaba (as is presently) is about 1/3 of Oliver Thambo Int'l .

Hmm, built for $260million yet it looks awful? Welcome to Nigeria YET we ask ourselves why we're not moving forward. A decent $260million should have at least 1 decent terminal with at least 6 boarding gates... |

On a more serious note - I think that the pursuit of infrastructural development in the SE will have to be pursued by private means. It's obvious that the Federal gov't is not all that interested in improving the SE in this regard. I wonder why we haven't put together resources for this - We boast a high number of high earning individuals so pooling funds wouldn't be that much of a hassle if people are organized. |

Nnenna1: On a more serious note - I think that the pursuit of infrastructural development in the SE will have to be pursued by private means. ^^^What our high networth, entrepreneurial Sons and Daughters need is a kick up the backside (with all due respect). They need to see the bigger picture and be pro-active, not waiting for the Federal Gov't. Also, what we need is a more focused/centralised Igbocentric business plan and ethos, and to stop thinking based on state and personal levels as we've done thus far. Someone needs to champion this and lead the way, but i haven't seen such happening yet. |

Anyone been through Asaba Int'l Airport lately and taken pics/videos to share; want to see if business/traffic has increased since last year.....we should be talking of int'l and cargo flights by now if the aviation ministry and the Delta state gov't is proactive enough. |
