We have Electricity...it may not be stable though, we could do more with a cheaper and more staple source of electricity.
lets not use that as an excuse not to do anything. there are industries working, Innoson, dangote et al millions of others.
Only a lazy man would fold his arms looking looking for an excuse to do nothing..
You say there's no electricity..Have you been sleeping in darkness all these while or charging your phones or powering you PC with candles?
what Buhari is doing is tantamount of re inventing the wheel, i just read tat it would take us two years to produce pencils, will all the materials used in the pencil production be produced in Nigeria or is it assembling of pencils that will take two years, Buhari is still stuck in the tunnel vision that Nigeria will become a manufacturing giant, but that will not happen overnight, and what he is doing is tantamount of soldiers burning their pots and pans when at war , he is taking Nigeria on a suicide mission anyhow he has only 3 years and the next govct reverses all his changes

Were you the one who authorised it, go get some real info man!

I sent £1k this morning from London to mu first bank account in Nigeria I got alert of N450. The BDC ha e agents here who wire money on the high streets here in the UK. We feed them and they in turn get hard currency to sell in Nigeria. This is how it now works. The Banks will never ever have dollars to sell at that rate.

is not true, those living abroad transfer money to domiciliary account and withdraw in dollars, then change in black market or you send through azimo international money transfer, their exchange rate is near to black market rate. Western union and moneygram is for official transactions
I wish this was true, like I said I'm also in this state of turmoil. I called my account officer and she affirmed what I hve been saying....ALL MONEY IN THE DORM ACCOUNTS ARE TO BE PAID IN LOCAL CURRENCY @ OFFICIAL RATE....if you still doubt me, Visit your nearest bank branch & ask for more info. Let's not go back and forth the issue...if you want phone-numbers of mallams who sell forex. Pm me,so you can clear your doubt. If you have friends in Nigeria, you can ask them what's the latest. You cannot be @ London & be arguing with one who is in Naija on the rates @ parallel mkt.
And if I get you correctly, £1000 was bought from you @ 450naira....which means you were cheated anywayz. Because it should have been bought @ say 500. But because its a business and they had to make profit, they buy from you 450 & sell to desperate guys there @ UK 500 or slightly lower than the Naijas blck market rate. #who now had the last laugh?

What you are saying about dorm acct is true, but nobody now living abroad is sending money home through western union or moneygram, the person will lose alot, black market agent is everywhere now in developed countries like uk,us,canada, germany etc we send our money through them and off course they have to gain something, now that pound is 500,with a good bargain in london they can sell naira at least 470

I don't think the official bank rate should change, regardless of the transaction_ but since I don't know so much about PayPal, I can't really say much on that.
Ecobank charges around that when using their mastercard atm outside the country. That 197 I don't know who uses it men.

The earlier u all get the gist the better for us all. if u add value to the economy and u really need dollars kindly apply to the banks and if u meet the requirements u will be given at the below rate and u continue to add to the economy.
However if u need dollars for luxuries, goods cbn has stopped funding with dollars, holidays etc u are on ur own. Go look for ur dollar elsewhere
Have we wondered why Nigerian manufacturers (MAN) arent complaining? have u wondered why that tomato selling woman in the market doesnt care or know what u are talking about because they arent affected? its because their business seems to be picking up by Nigerians now looking inwards. its we the elite that are feeling the heat and not the poor.
Gone are the days when we have serious reserves and Govt will continue to gurantee all our frivolities. Now, for frivolities, u are on ur own. The interest of the extremely weak is this govt priority and not the overfed. Many shouting here aimlessly are not even affected in anyway about the rise in the parallel market. Those receiving free dollars before cant and have gone in the parrallel market making it saturated and price high.
When they finally get their dollars at extremely high rate and choose to import, on getting to our borders, they also pay huge tax to the govt so by the time the goods get to the end shop, it becomes ridiculously expensive for the buyer. The question is if the buyer doesnt buy the luxury good, will he die?
I have reasons to import spare parts for my vehicles and to be honest, its ridicously high now. Govt is forcing me to start looking towards Innosun...............for my selfish self, thats not ok but for the overall good, its the best.

One of the more reasonable post i ve read so far, it shows you are abreast of the situation. PMB is saying if you are an entrepreneur, manufacturer and you are willing to import machinery, raw material you fall among those the dollars we make from oil will be sold to at 199, but if all you do is import wine, toothpick, furniture, yatch, private plane, phones, flowers, etc go get your dollars yourself from the parallel market, he is not going to fund your luxury.
One think i want us to ask is, if PMB says he will not fund the parrarel market. (1) Who then funds the parallel or black market?
(2) why has the dollar fallen sharply since PMB came?
(3) Why is PMB rejecting devaluation?
=The parrarel market is largely funded from our kits and kin who send dollars from abroad, also income from exportation by businesses, when foreigners come in for tourism with dollars, All these either go through the Banks, BDC, mallams.
=Before PMB, we can agree that a lot of dollars found their way out of CBN coffers via corruption, also revenue leakages from outfits like NPA, NIMASSA ensured that the parallel or black market had enough of this illicit fund, this ensured supply and marginal difference between official and parallel market rate, so dollar it hovered around 220. The economy then was bloated and not production based. On coming on board PMB implemented TSA, this singular art blocked to great extent Govt Revenue leakages, reduced corruption, included also is the policy banning dollar deposits, all this contributed in no small way to conscript dollars in the parrarel or black market, hence the short fall and subsequent pressure on the price in the parallel market which led to what we have today, 385 a dollar. .
=PMB in order to protect the masses is strongly against devaluation and rightly so. Devaluation will lead to NNPC importing fuel at 385 to a dollar, inflation, demand for salary increase, loss of jobs due to inability to pay new wage, local manufacturers will loose price advantages they ve now because under devaluation they will need to get their dollar for import import at 385 or 382.
CONCLUSIONcheesy Diiversification is the way to go as the Nation seeks to make Nigeria self sufficient. Ensure her business men export goods to earn more foreign exchange. At the present rate Dangotte, innoson, Ammanco, Nestle, Local textile outfits ate enjoying the benefits of buying dollars 199 and expanding their business, that is why local Manufacturers (MAN) are not complaining. Of course corruption affects the best of intentions including PMB intention to only make dollars available to local manufactures, i can't vouch for CBN and the Banks to be honest. There is no better time than now for our local manufacturers to improve capacity as they enjoy lower dollar rates. If the dollar spike were genuine and market related inflation would ve risen exponentially.

....there are very many commentary on depreciation of ₦ nowadays expecially in parallel market, although parallel or black market can be manipulated by the traders, they either do it on their self interest, so those who doesn't beleive in the prosperity of nigeria can harbour $ as they can on imported goods hereby cause hike!
But in my own point of view the depreciation of ₦ is a great success to this nation if well manage to nigeria situation today. the looted fund is in $ and it must be refunded back in $, so if $1 is ₦198 when the money is looted, then if the money is refund today at $1 to ₦350 the nation has gained ₦152!
imagine if $1=₦1000, the gain is ₦902!
So in conclusion if the government managed to refund the $trillion looted and the refunded money, change it in parallel market, this will reduce the pressure on ₦ and the scarcity of $ in parallel market so the ₦=$.

(take note all the money took out of CBN during jonathan regime were changed in parallel market before ditributed)

Oh,k.....well seeing that CBN has banned dollar for students abroad. I feel they might start selling to them abroad while their parents pay the naira equivalent into their bank accouts In nigeria. And yes about your previous comment, they'll obviously make profit of 50 or 40naira. Its a risk you know. My uncle lost few pounds thru these e-agents. He sent pounds in Nigeria and he receved stories that the money and that of other ccustomers was seized at the airport with these agents.....Its a Risk tho! But its a risk worth taking, rather than play to the gallery of the CBN
