Obiano Told To Give Anambra's Major Cities Water By Emeka Anyaoku
Finally Gov. Obiano if you read me sir, the next project that would
immensely touch the lives our people is the pipe borne water projects
in our cities like Awka, Nnewi, Onitsha, Ekwuluobia e.t.c .

I know you have prioritized the provision of pipe borne water in these
cities in this year’s budget, but please sir, see to it that it is
accomplished this year.

This will surely be one of your enduring legacies, because our
innocent children are still dying of water borne diseases like typhoid
fever in a country that is so much blessed with abundant annual
rainfalls, rivers and streams.

You do not need to build dams, just channel waters from the many
rivers we have in Anambra State to the treatment plants and Ndi –
Anambra would have so much water to drink and your government would
equally make so much money possibly running into billions every year
from payments of water bills by the consumers.

Once again, congratulations for your well deserved Sun Newspaper

Onitsha once had a world Bank assisted water scheme that was efficient....
Then along came mbadinuju who owed the water board workers for years, the equipment all got messed up with no maintenance and rain floods.
That's billions gone down the drain, na to begin raise money build another one be that.....

Pipe-borne, tap water is a BASIC, essential item for our people's health, hygiene etc.
In most states, the situation today is worse than it was in the 70s. That includes for Lagos the state of excellence after 17 years of progreTHIEF administration by Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode.

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.
