I was speaking to a friend the other day and he said he has a best friend
who happens to be a girl he is madly in love with but he can't tell her that he
loves her because he is afraid of ruining the friendship they share. So he is
just playing along and being the best friend she could ever have while dying in
silence. Well, I know he is not the only one with this problem. I know so many
people who are in this dilemma of unrequited love. They know they are in the
"friend zone" but can't do anything to get out of it. Some people don't even
know if they belong to this group of people or not.

What does friend zone mean?
The "friend zone" refers to a situation where there is a mismatch in
romantic feelings
between two individuals. It is a situation where one person is interested in
romance while
the other wants to "just be friends". At other times, the friends are already
sexually involved
(i.e. friends-with-benefits), but there is a commitment mismatch, where only
one person
wants a "relationship" as a committed girlfriend or boyfriend.
In essence, the friend zone occurs in relationships where both individuals'
emotional
needs are not getting met. Someone is not getting what they want and need.
Because all
good relationships are built from a mutually-satisfying social exchange, friend
