[b]PAULINUS Igwe, a member representing Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency in the House of Representatives has reportedly remained in coma one week after he was operated upon in the brain where robbers shot him at Nnobi, Anambra state, last week.

Igwe, the House of Representatives Committee chairman on Rural Development,who was among those previously detained with Ndudi Elumelu over the N5.2m rural electrification scam may be flown abroad according to a family source who confirmed that Igwe was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of a Neurosurgery hospital in Enugu shortly after the attack last week Thursday where he underwent the surgery and has been receiving treatment.

At the neurosurgery hospital in Enugu , relatives of the lawmaker were seen hanging around the hospital while Igwe was said to be sleeping after drugs were administered on him yesterday. A consultant at the hospital confirmed that the lawmaker often relapses into coma but that efforts are being made to get him back to stable condition.

“We heard that his people are trying to move him to a hospital outside the country which is fine considering his position in the country. He has to be given the best form of treatment. Any injury that affects the brain and the eye should not be treated with levity,” the doctor said in confidence.

Meanwhile, the remains of the four persons who died during the attack where Igwe was shot have been conveyed to Abakaliki and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) morgue. The lawmaker’s convoy was attacked on his way to to attend the Christian wake of the deceased father to the National Vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), south east, Chief Olisa Metuh at Nnewi, Anambra state.

Those that were instantly killed, include a former Special Advisers to the immediate past governor of the state, Moses Ugorji, and Chukwuma Ofefe including two policemen in the convoy.

The two ambulances that arrived Abakaliki at about 7.30pm were said to have had some hitches on the way despite the presence of a retinue of armed mobile policemen who accompanied the corpses. They were received at the FMC morgue by some notable politicians in the state, including the South East Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ali Odefa, Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emma Nwobo, chairmen of different councils, among others.
