Should I Give My Unfaithful Tenant An Eviction Notice? by Eddygourdo(m): 8:48am On Mar 26, 2016 |
I just arrive lagos to hear some unpalatable news about my tenant. This yoruba family blessed with three children. The wife is a struggling woman. Doing her best to provide for the home and truthfully all the while I have known this man. He has been reasonable, a loving parent. He could do anything to provide for his family. Yet this year no rent payment, no nepa payment, yet we pump water free with either generator or nepa to ensure the taps in his home are running always as well as other amenities I was told my another neighbour that this man now sleeps in the house of another woman old enough to be his mother, on inquiry to his wife as to the whereabouts of the husband. She told me he says he wanna hustle at night buying produce from far away towns. Unknowingly to her the stupid man has been sleeping out with another woman, a widow old enough to be his mother. I believe juju must be involved, because I never envisioned such character from him. Anyway it isn't my business how he wants to ruin his family. But my concern is that news from the grapevine indicates he just paid the house rent of the so called woman. Yet he hasn't paid the one his family lives in. This is my bone of contention. I pity the family but I don't have time for empathy especially when my money is concerned (I am an igbo man). This is soon April and his rent expired since October last year. I believe a quit notice could harm the wife and kids more than the hopeless man. But Wat can I do. I doubt advice to a man under a spell will work. Hence haven't called him to advise him. Am really stewing and confused on what to do. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

If the rent is yearly you can give them the option of paying in instalments, maybe monthly, or any other way they can pay it regularly. Your tenant's private life is not your business, so I don't think there's any need harping on it. If you're fed up you can simply write off their debt and send them out. Besides what's the essence of stating your tribe? Do others play or joke with their money?? 202 Likes 10 Shares |

Give them quit notice even though you don't intend kicking them out if they cant meet up with the deadline... Its his life and his family, don't get involved in their personal life and don't let what he does make you sentimental... Cheating men are liars, can you imagine adding sentiments and later he turns out to say you are the one cheating with his wife that's why you didn't do anything all these while 10 Likes 1 Share |

This attitude of Nigerians and I don't care attitudee towards our neighbour is d reason things keep getting worse, dear landlord pls call ur tenant to order. He may listen to you as he owes u, he may respect u and listen to u. I think the society is geetting it all wrong this days, gone are those days wen we are our brothers keeper, wen ur neighbour will be the one to train ur children for u in ur absence. Things where better those days, promiscuity was not this pronouced bcoz we where our brothers keeper. Parents can't be everyhere everytime so neighbours do their jobs for them attimes by spanking a wayward child. But this days ur neighbour sees ur child dressed trashy and just walk pass bcoz its not their biz. And thesame people see those children online half unclad and say wat is this orld turning into, sister it is turning to wat we have made it. Dear landlord please call d man and hear his own part of d story and advice accordingly and ask for ur rent to be paid in installment. #beurneighbourskeeper 114 Likes 7 Shares |

Thanks all. The response has cleared the guilt I had. No point trying to speak to him about his behaviour and exactly how such is affecting his obligations to me rent wise. Will call him at most on Monday and issue him the quit notice. Though I pity him. He has always been a reasonable man. Where he learnt this disgraceful behaviour is surprising. I have lost all respect for him. 1 Like 2 Shares |

sunny442:was thinking of doing that, but this man is likely in a juju spell by the woman. For four years he has lived with me. He has never ever been a bad tenant or exhibited this behaviour. I was told he is the fourth married man falling for the so called widow. If he is under a spell. How will advice work, or won't the woman attack my informant after he has reported me to her. The informant is am in law to the woman 1 Like 1 Share |

Dont mix business with pleasure If he owes you money and you want him out, then follow the correct process Do not discuss his liaisons with other women with him If he didnt owe you, would you be interested in his life style If he wants to kill himself, let him do so, he is not a kid Besides if juju was involved for real, the woman just didnt throw juju at him He would have been a willing partner for the woman to be close enough to jazz him. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Oga Landlord, I don't think you are helping the family by listening to stories from the 'grapevines' since your relationship with him cannot permit you to act on hearsay... At the same time, pitying his wife is not your business if you are a true Igbo man. Ask for your rent and let him know you wish to involve your lawyer. That's the only power you have to beat him back to his house. Maybe family members will get to know and then make him fall back to his senses... 2 Likes 1 Share |

Op your tenant's private life has nothing to do with you so is better for you to mind your business. Haba naija people taking another man's panadol tire o. So leave that aspect if you are looking for your monthly payments 1 Like 1 Share |
