You sound like a good man. If he's under a spell, he can never be free on his own. If you're a Christian, I mean a real Christian, call him and let him know that some of his acts are known outside, then advice him and take him to The Lord's Chosen. One day in Chosen, that yoke will break and he'll be free. I've seen this happened several times.

The op himself needs The Lord's Chosen, maybe they should both seek help there.

Seems you are a tenant somewhere owing some rent. Why are you taking it personal? Do you know the cost of a plot of land ?

Gosh, what a nicompoop!

yes I am a tenant in my fathers house!

And I'll take it personal if anyone disrespects my ethnicity

There U happy! Houseboy!

The sidecomment bout being igbo is my only spite

If he like, he can go and shoot the tenant I could care less, since he has no dignity about where he's from

Evict them from your house Wen it's the due date!
what goes around comes around. The allegations of the tenant paying the rent of another home us hearsay, and not based in facts. You shouldguard your statements, because one day, you're gonna be somebody's daddy and someone's hubby. Then you'll realize how 'easy'it is to be a man of the house.
At OP, thread carefully. Make your findings before taking rash decisions. You sound like a reasonable landlord. Negotiate payment terms with your tenant and keep the peace. Tomorrow to us all is still not clear.
NB you also sound tribal

I have no home according to people here, I might live on the streets according to others, I could own even more than one house as the case might be. This is an open forum where opinions are freely given.

To those who have said something meaningful, the tenant of mine, is a produce buyer and hustler. He met the woman while purchasing produce. My informant is an in law to the woman in question who also is an attendant in my piggery farm. So I see no reasons for doubting her story.

My major concern in this issue has been clearly about my rent. If I never got info about him paying the rent of the other woman. I won't bother as I don't survive on that rent and give him alot of laxity since I don't live permanently in lagos. Work takes me out. Anyway like I said earlier, his personal life isn't my business and this neighbour has been a good tenant for 4years he has lived with me.

This attitude of Nigerians and I don't care attitudee towards our neighbour is d reason things keep getting worse, dear landlord pls call ur tenant to order. He may listen to you as he owes u, he may respect u and listen to u.
I think the society is geetting it all wrong this days, gone are those days wen we are our brothers keeper, wen ur neighbour will be the one to train ur children for u in ur absence. Things where better those days, promiscuity was not this pronouced bcoz we where our brothers keeper. Parents can't be everyhere everytime so neighbours do their jobs for them attimes by spanking a wayward child. But this days ur neighbour sees ur child dressed trashy and just walk pass bcoz its not their biz. And thesame people see those children online half unclad and say wat is this orld turning into, sister it is turning to wat we have made it.
Dear landlord please call d man and hear his own part of d story and advice accordingly and ask for ur rent to be paid in installment.

I have visited twice and found him not at home especially as I had to rush his twins to the hospital late in the night. On enquiry did his wife tell me he never sleeps home cos of business. As far as the wife is concerned she doesn't know where he sleeps. I only added one and two together to realise, he lied. My factor here is the cash not his life style

by justification of being non sentimental, he is owning since last year, I still service his flat. Should I evict him in this economy? I have more than one house with tenants, but where I work currently am a tenant there. So oga a tenant is also a human being. And I am trying to be human and shoe compassion. I have ignored the fact he hasn't paid because of the economy. So am not being religious or sentimental

To those who feel am pock nosing. I have houses, I have tenants whether ins home rental or in office rental. But yet where I am currently based and work I am a tenant. I could not evict without considering the human angle. I was patient cos of the economy. He is a family man and I believed he will one day pay. He gave birth to his three kids in my home, so I doubt he isn't enjoying any blessings from my home. Thus I can't Maltreat him simply cos he is late a few months in this economy affecting us all. But to hear us is cavorting with another woman, spending the night there, owing me, while paying the rent of this other woman. Is very upsetting.

My choice I prefer he changes and pays me. He is a good tenant. I loaned him money to secure a half plot of his own land at ijoko. I earlier thought he was developing his own home while owing me. Only to be informed of his behaviour.

My post has received its due advice since yesterday I posted it. I have listen and taken a decision. To them kids here claiming they know me and my rat infested home.

Face your studies. One day you will be better than me. Happy easter. Bye

In that case I think u should serve him a quit notice to awaken his sense of reasoning , but pls don't quit his family ,
My dad once had an irresponsible tenant like this man , and when he gave him quit notice , the man absconded and left the family , the wife and kids stayed for anonther year without paying rent , and my mum was assisting them with food stuff and other things they needed , until she eventually got a job. .

You re very stupid and arrogant landlord. I know for sure igbo landlords re very understanding and I don't like the idea were u put it as if blood doesn't run in them...only money. I am an igbo landlord too and I ve a yoruba man as a tenant who had some financial challenges two years after living in my house. For one year plus I never bothered him and the family. I prayed for him so that people won't think my house brought him bad luck. Today he has 3 cars and he never misses out on rent. I don't listen to hearsay mind your business and pray for them and I know God will favor them and that translates to regular payment. God bless you

my fear exactly. That's y I was confused in the first place. Didn't want to make a decision that would turn the abandoned family to a bigger burden on me. Anyway have made up my mind to evict him come October when it's one year. Thanks

read ur posts and see the immaturity in it. In one sentence you are abusing me on what u don't know, on the other angle you are blessing me. My reference to igbo is to key into the well known belief to ensure people understand my major interest is in my money and not his life issues. Did I tell you I worried him despite all the months he owed? Did I reduce my service to his flat? Well if you believe am all you said. Then it's on you. I just arrive lagos to hear some unpalatable news about my tenant. This yoruba family blessed with three children. The wife is a struggling woman. Doing her best to provide for the home and truthfully all the while I have known this man. He has been reasonable, a loving parent. He could do anything to provide for his family. Yet this year no rent payment, no nepa payment, yet we pump water free with either generator or nepa to ensure the taps in his home are running always as well as other amenities

I was told my another neighbour that this man now sleeps in the house of another woman old enough to be his mother, on inquiry to his wife as to the whereabouts of the husband. She told me he says he wanna hustle at night buying produce from far away towns. Unknowingly to her the stupid man has been sleeping out with another woman, a widow old enough to be his mother. I believe juju must be involved, because I never envisioned such character from him.

Anyway it isn't my business how he wants to ruin his family. But my concern is that news from the grapevine indicates he just paid the house rent of the so called woman. Yet he hasn't paid the one his family lives in. This is my bone of contention. I pity the family but I don't have time for empathy especially when my money is concerned (I am an igbo man). This is soon April and his rent expired since October last year.

I believe a quit notice could harm the wife and kids more than the hopeless man. But Wat can I do. I doubt advice to a man under a spell will work. Hence haven't called him to advise him. Am really stewing and confused on what to do.

It is none of your business.

Op, I don't know your faith, but I believe you can help him. call him in, advice him base on what you knew ( before the rumors), find out from him his reasons for present behaviors, pray for him if you suspect he is charmed.

you don't need to be a pastor to cast out a foul spirit, just pray in the name of Jesus.

Well yoruba people listen to their elders, so I have advised the woman who told me to get in touch with elders whom she has seen around him. Hopefully they will speak to him. Since I don't stay in town, I don't wanna come off as a gossip. So I rather not confront him so his wife doesn't get wind of what people know

You are the one saying you rented a room which was filled with rats.

Have you forgotten?

I dont know how you will say you're a landlord in Lagos but renting a rat filled room in another town.

Keep in mind the fact that Lagos is more expensive than most places in Nigeria!
