I did a complete format and new OS installation on my HP 6735s laptop. Prior to format, I did a backup of my files but unfortunately I didn't backup my picture folder. I have(had) an incredible picture database that dates back to 2004. It's one of my dearest tresures, a true collector's item.

I know of 'undelete' applications that can recover files that were accidentally deleted permanently by rewriting them back into space. But in my case here it's a complete format. Still I've heard of powerful RECOVERY softwares that can recover any file that has ever graced any system's hard disk.

I'm not a Nigeria resident and would advice that you visit a local

repair Center to get this fix. Explain the problem and have faith in the

technician let he or she do the job. at the end of

the day what the professional say is the final. patronize them and pay the

required amount. Needn't paying for further diagnostics as you have done
plenty of them. That's if you followed our instructions and do everything as typed.

Hold down the windows logo key and R a box would come up

type in dxdiag press enter to continue scrool to display and look for the chip type or

manufacturer mostly likely NVIDIA if it is better to get another laptop instead of repairing this.

google hp dv series for known issues, is a defective product and have been recalled

Sir/Madam,

I'd advice that you took your laptop to a repair centre believing it
needs repairing and the let the technician carryout the job.
Visit a good repair centre not the ones offering shortcut repairs or
quoting you the lowest, go to the people that count.

Patronize them just a routine visit to a medical doctor.

Good luck

Hi Skydancer and all, please I formatted my laptop and I need to recover the files. I've found a recovery software which is Scavenger. However I need the license key before I can recover my files. I'll be glad if you can help me with it or with any other recovery software at all. Thanks.

@jeffiejay

have you tried testdisk?
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by jeffiejay(m): 5:21pm On Nov 16, 2011
@blackweaver yes I've tried testdisk. I saw your previous reply. However the testdisk zip folder says that it is invalid and it won't open. I've downloaded it a number of times and it still says the same thing.
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 8:10pm On Nov 16, 2011
@jeffiejay just downloaded it and was able to extract the file (it should be 3.3mb)

or you could try downloading it from cnet :

Let me break it down to you in simple terms - You can't do it, just accept you've lost the data.

Even if you manage to recover the files, there is 99.9% chance they are corrupt and useless.  [s]This is why forensic experts are highly paid[/s]

1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
