I'm looking at it from the quality of opposition Yekini faced. I already said earlier that it took time before he found his scoring boots

also u hv to look at it this way that then they were a lot of minnows especially in African football

As of then super powers in African football were Cameroon,Ghana,Egypt and Nigeria. Others were mostly below average teams n minnows

Yes of course but Osimehn need Afcon trophy,WC qualification irrespective of number of goals to be the real guy….even I don’t see APOTY as a big deal cuz am seeing him winning it…the koko is Afcon and World Cup qualification.
oga sir APOTY is a big deal oh. 1999 was the last time a Nigerian player won it. For me Osimhen winning the APOTY put him on a different level.

yes of course. He is already tagged as one of the best strikers in the world currently and winning the Apoty will elevate he’s status more

Not winning a major trophy with Nigeria can’t and won’t rob him of he’s achievements

I also remember you said Solanke will never think of playing for Nigeria because he has no connection with Nigeria. What do you have to say about the news of him now begging for attention from Nigeria?
omg 😳 life’s indeed an irony ! I recall vividly when we were romancing Tammy Abraham to play for us but look at us today blessed with Top class forwards … he and his likes will be silently regretting now. God is indeed a great God 🙌

Ivory Coast and Algeria that won AFCON in the early 1990s were not minnows o. The only major African team I remember Yekini not scoring against was Ghana something Osimhen funnily enough also shares in common with him.

I don't fault Osimhen too much because you can only score against the opposition that is in front of him. I'm only encouraging him to also do it against the big teams.

At club level he has shown he can breach the defenses of big clubs like Juventus, AC Milan and Chelsea so I'm optimistic he will be a thorn in the flesh whenever we tackle the likes of Senegal, Morocco or Cameroon.

the same way Zambia won it too 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Baba from 90-2000 African super powers then were Cameroon,Egypt,Nigeria and Ghana( to an extend)

Others like Tunisia,Morocco,CIV,Zambia,SA,Algeria etc were decent teams but below average

Why are you hell bent on making unnecessary comparisons, boss? We have a Nigerian legend and an upcoming one that everyone loves, I don't see any need in watering down the great Yekini's achievements.

37 goals in 56 is an insane stat anytime, anyday.

what prompted the comparison is those saying that even if osimhen surpasses yekini’s record that not winning any thing tangible with the super eagles will rob him of he’s legendary status in Nigerian football

Yekini never played against such opponents or even worse while repping Nigeria? How many did he score against them even with our heavily lubricated midfied and wings spoon-feeding him, unlike what Osimhen has in the midfield and wings now? Hey and that was even when football rules were not as strict as they are today.

Yes, I quite agree. Osimhen is hardly yet to achieve anything with the national team.
Osimhen is just one goal short of Yakabu, three short of Odegbami and 17 short of Yekini. Barring any dip in form or long term injuries, he is looking on course to overtake Yekini.
...........but, just like many others, I still feel he is yet to attain his full potential for the national team. The Principe and Sao Tome games really helped his career. I don't know how many of such teams he will face for the rest of his career. Yekini was scoring braces against highly rated teams like Ivory Coast and Algeria back then. Osimhen is yet to taste any world cup action and yet to play in any AFCON final let alone to win it.

I still believe if Yekini was playing in today's football he will be ahead of Osimhen in the national team pecking order.
don’t worry sir he will get like 5 against Lesotho 🇱🇸 during the World Cup qualifiers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

if osimhen happen to be flanked by prime finidi and amuneke as well as always played through by mercurial jay jay from the middle by now em for don hit 30 goals

Remember that was an era when finidi was rated as the best number 7/RW in the world

English born Nigeria eligible players I would want in our team are Chukwuemeka and Madueke

Then for Germany 🇩🇪 Felix Nmecha, Atubolu and maybe Udu

Italy 🇮🇹 Udogie(seem impossible), Okoli and Folorunsho
