They can afford to shut down Lagos for more than 5 hours doing Lagos Marathon. Ambode does not have a single idea how Lagos should be Governed. He has not shut down Lagos while lucking self in different clubs in Lagos? Hisss.

Sanitation should be a daily routine and not a monthly exercise. But i still feel that the government should put laws to checkmate the dirty activities of people in lagos

If this is true, then it's a very beautiful and commendable move, if you asked me. There's nowhere environmental sanitation exercises restrict the movement of people and cripple economic activities in this age and time.

I've made strong arguments for the cancellation many years ago.

I can't wait to see other states follow the same path.

Bravo, this is a welcome development as I have always argued that the environmental sanitation days are a waste of manhours.

Monthly environmental sanitations have not improved public health nor cleanliness in Nigeria since its inception in the 1980s.

The government cannot shift it's responsibilities to its citizens in the guise of environmental sanitation. Rather efforts should be made to strengthen sanitation agency at the council level, this I believe will make a visible difference in public health across Lagos

A very sensible submission. I've advocated for its cancellation for years.

I know the people who championed this course. They just forced him to do it. Without restrictions in movement, you can't really enforce and ensure the monthly sanitation.

Good one, but how will people learn to clean their houses & environment now that they are not being forced.
it's better they learn it as a habit rather than been forced. Locking up shops, Markets, homes that fail to comply with environmental laws will teach them over time as done in international communities.
Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by Zelex9(m): 3:39pm On Mar 31, 2016
The problem with this action is that there is no type of enforcement in place that will make sure sanitation exercises are done daily as insinuated by Ambode. Not impressed with the explanation behind the policy (too simplistic), I assume there must be more behind it.

A very foolish and useless move..of all the policies to scrap. Why not scrap agbero fee collecting from transporters.

Now nobody in my compound would agree to come out for it. Because that last saturday nobody get excuse. We are forced to clean every nook and corner of our compound and immediate surrounding. Rubbish

Lagos is now going to become dirtier, trust me. Because most Lagosians are very dirty and that monthly sanitation is one - if not the only thing that puts them in check. Now they're going to have all of the excuses in this world not to keep their environment clean.
it's another means of generating revenue for LAGOS GOVT. The government understands how dirty Lagos street, market places will be.So, WOLÉWOLÉ (health workers) will definitely sanction markets, houses and the government'll generate revenue through that.

ambode seems to be the real deal, I see this guy surpassing fashola in all ramifications, I for one have been clamouring for the abolition of the so called sanitation days for a very long time.

For instance, Thursdays is like a total waste for the traders and other services related to their trading. proper trading commences after twelve which means about 6 hrs of the day is already wasted. the pathetic part of it is the traders even spend those hours playing football or watching film at home cos they already did the cleaning wednesday evening before closing shop

environmental sanitation is supposed to be a daily thing and not a weekly or monthly thing. I will implore the government to set up health task force to ensure all markets and streets are always clean, if sanction defaulters to serve as deterrent

Good move. Long overdue.

Everyone that needs government to restrict their movement before they can clean their environment are the dirty ones.

Cleaning should be part of your daily routine. There is no where in the world that I am aware off that government restrict movement for cleaning purposes

Do you realise NYC is actually a dirty city despite the fact that they are constantly cleaning the place.

Lagos state govt cannot afford to run a 24hrs cleaning service

NYC spend around $2.3B annualy to keep the city clean so how is that even comparable?
