for the Chinese version, face unlock comes out of the box with any region.
For the Global version, you have to change region to India
For the Indian note 5pro, they got it with update kiss
Change region from the settings? If yes, is there any disadvantage of doing so?

About exposure to data theft/manipulation, no one can escape dat n bliv me it is even worst on skinned android iterations..
On battery drain.. That one is subjected to personal belief n observation even to an extent illusion..

Guys using stock android or Android One devices, what are your solutions or alternatives to the following MIUI features?

1) Screen recorder
2) Superb screen capture and image editor
3) Messaging and calling app (much better than android messages and the others)
4) Compass app
5) Security app with built-in firewall and ability to selectively restrict apps from accessing the internet
6) Themes!!!
7) Dual apps!!! (e.g running two instances of Whatsapp for both SIMs)

Or do you prefer sacrificing some or all of the above in exchange for a smoother performance? smiley

I personally don't even need all these listed though lolllllllll but I like the screen capture, long screenshot and auto edit though.

Boss, in no way am I trying to dissuade ANYONE from getting stock Android. That is absolutely not my intention. I simply asked a question and was expecting suggestions on alternatives to those features; especially for those who consider those features as important.

It's always good to consider all the pros and cons before making a choice.

Exactly! Nice to hear. It seems one can never have it all in a device. You still have to sacrifice one benefit to get some other benefits.

Yeah, no gallery app with stock Android(not reffering to custom ROMs/OxygenOS here) is also crazy,I know there are tons on play store but I found them to be obtrusive. Personally I think OxygenOS is still the best form of "near stock android", you get the stock Android performance and customisations from skinned OS.

Du recorder
normal screen capture works fine
Default Calling and messaging apps work fine
Download the first one you see on playstore. Having a compass app is so random lol
Android One is already very secure. Ability to restrict apps from the internet is as easy as disabling the app.
Themes are overrated. Most people outgrow themes and change wallpapers if need be.
2 whatsapps is something i've never needed on a single phone.

Lastly yes, it's worth it.

Just my biased opinion

Na you sabi.

Right now, it seems that for anyone who considers those features as important, the person will have to make a choice between bloatware or crapware (i.e. the other softwares on play store purewaterware)

Restricting apps from accessing the internet is different from disabling them. Enjoy your choice though.

Great!!!

Google is finally getting there.

Hopefully they will port most if not all these features to be part of core Android.

Datally from Google also helps for Nougat and marshmallow.

Hahahahahaha, another device imminent.

Even more weird coz Samsung skipped the Note 6.

I guess they would use the Helio P60 or Sd636
