Where you may have a problem is in the coursework. Believe me, you need to concentrate on the coursework to make a good grade. That is when you will attend lectures, take tests and exams. If you combine two at this point, there may be clash during exams and it wont be funny. My best advice is leave a space of one year between them. In that case you will have been through with the coursework for the first one before you start the coursework for the second. And there's the likelihood that you'll even finish the two programmes at the same time, A friend started his programme over a year before I started mine in another school but we ended up finishing same time. Thank me later.

Thanks everyone for your contributions to this thread, much appreciated. I asked him to go through this thread himself, and I believe a decision has been made.

For those saying that I'm the individual concerned, I also thank you for your own contribution, but since I have a demanding job I can't even imagine putting myself through the stress. Thanks anyway. grin

Mods mynd44 and Lalasticlala, thanks for bringing this to the front page.

I think the two are very related, Geotech is more civil engineering related and specialised but water can help him get a job in ministry of agric and works.
But is it possible? sure yes, Elon musk read both physics and economics concurrently and you know how involving both courses can be

CzarChris:
A very good friend of mine wants to apply for a masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering in one university and Water Resources Engineering in another university, both schools are Federal Universities. Now he will surely secure admission to study both of them since he had a distinction(4.87) in the PGD he did(both courses are in Civil Engineering department).
I asked him to choose one, but he said that he wants to do both at the same time, cause he has a passion for one and the other is because of his career path. He asked for my advice, and I couldn't come up with anything, so I brought it to the house for experienced people to give me the best advice for him.

First of all is it even legal to run two masters at the same time?

Matured responses only please.

Please don't discourage him so that we will learn from his experience if he survives it. People with such mind are rare in this part of the world.

NTI is fast the form is still on sale I think 3,350 or 2,350. After a week they'll give you admission surely. School fees is 26,350, You pay for computer tablet either part payment 23,000 or full 45,000 the 2016 programme is ending this year December.

It's a nice programme cool cool

It is possible to do the two Masters at the same time. However, he needs to put some factors into consideration.
1. He MUST not run the two programs in the same school
2. The two Instituions must not be far apart... for Instance, if you are in Lagos, UNILAG nad LASU are good options. or UNILAG and UniIbadan. not UNILAg and UNIBEN or UNIBEn and UNIPORT when he is based in Lagos...Hope you understand? Proximity is important.
3. He MUST not run the two programs FULL TIME...Obviously your friend is not working I guess. Hence, he can run one in Part time and the other in Full time. The reason is to avoid clash of exams and a quicker completion of one for a freer time for the other.
4. NEVER LET ALONE TELL YOU YOU CANT...LIFE IS A CHALLENGE NEVER TAKE THE LAST BLOW.

That's if he is planning to bite more than he can chew, one is very stressful as it is and he wants to do two simultaneously... oooooo

some people just want to kill themselves by themselves. My two cents though.

Bro, Masters is the easiest compare to BSc, all you need is course outlines, read and do research, be available for your presentation and write your exams, it's very very possible to do the two together.

Go ahead and do it

Depends on what the Senate of the institution prescribes; for instance, you can not be granted admission to study two programmes in the same university.

So you saying it is actually against the University rules to study two different programs in same University during same duration. For example, say one is about to round a masters degree, remaining just 1 more semester, and he registers for another one. Is it possible in Unilag?
