^ Boohoo, congratulations chiogo- lol, i forgot about that. Sorry for my bad manners. I still stand by my position though, we should be celebrating nobel laureates, and advancement of Africans in science and business. Anyways, I just have a totally different view of the world, I apologize for imposing it. But I just want the best for my countrymen/countrywomen |

FL Gators: Hey na, see me see trouble. So I cannot criticize again. Anyways congrats to chiogo- I would take my socialism and pan-african politics elsewhere. Congratulations again, as I mentioned earlier I was never a good student in secondary school so this is impressive I like chiogo a lot, she is a very cool girl. She is actually one of my favorite people on NL. However, I am in love with you FL Gator so no worries . I would not have made this remark if I knew her previously on NL. |

Wednesday, she will give the valedictory speech - in English - at the Social Justice Academy in Hyde Park. As a high-achieving African immigrant, she is not alone. According to Census numbers, African immigrants have a 96 percent high-school graduation rate nationwide - 12 percent higher than the national average. LOL! Can't stop chuckling. A valedictorian in an American school is not supposed to understand English ni? Chiogo girl, congrats. Happy for you, I am. |
Re: Nairalander(chiogo) Becomes The First Nigerian Valedictorian In Boston, Usa by chiogo(f): 6:47pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
SEFAGO, look at you writing speeches. . And I thought I was the Valedictorian. Hope you know Boston public school is the oldest public school system in America, the education def. can't be that bad compared to the south, going by what I heard anyway. But you my friend, your type motivate me. This is mediocre abi? I'm aiming for the bigger fish now in college, keep an eye on your newspaper. FL Gators:LOL, I know but one could still see 'em by clicking on the link. No stress. maedan:Yes, I did mention it on that thread, LOL. Thanks!! spikedcylinder:Me sef I laughed when I read that part. SMH. Thanks!! |
Re: Nairalander(chiogo) Becomes The First Nigerian Valedictorian In Boston, Usa by chic2pimp(m): 7:12pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
SEFAGO:Are you kidding me? Valedictorian does not mean much ke? As I said earlier, if it was that easy, we all would be valedictorians or salutatorian for that matter. SEFAGO:I agree you don't have to be supersmart to get into cambridge however you do have to be very very smart. Man those family friends of yours are very rich cuz Harrow is a prestigious and expensive college(the only school that has a higher degree of prestige is Eton College) Also, my cousin did not attend a public school, however he did attend one of the top state owned schools(on par with public schools) chiogo: So I thought Also did he just say your school was mediocre? That boy no dey shame sha |

chinchin why are you so smart? |
Re: Nairalander(chiogo) Becomes The First Nigerian Valedictorian In Boston, Usa by SEFAGO(m): 8:29pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
chiogo: I do have the right to be cocky, disc jockeys jock me. (Wale) , I am not cocky just realistic. Hope you know Boston public school is the oldest public school system in America, the education def. can't be that bad compared to the south, going by what I heard anyway. But you my friend, your type motivate me. This is mediocre abi? I'm aiming for the bigger fish now in college, keep an eye on your newspaper. Doesn't say anything about quality. How many magnet science schools are in Boston that attract the best students who decide to forgo top prep schools? Massachusetts, like most areas in New England, is better know for its prep schools than its public schools. Public Schools in the south are only bad when its full of minority students by the way. Aim for the big fish- valedictorian at college. Even aim higher, your excellence would make me happy. I am treating you like my child, wanting the best for you now .
I didn't say it was mediocre. I do have a rough idea of the quality of the school, but that is my business. Do some research on the school if you want, and have nothing to do. By the way Boston Public schools were famous for being segregated. Anyone with a good knowledge of American history knows exactly what that means . I agree you don't have to be supersmart to get into cambridge however you do have to be very very smart. Yeah that gives him an edge- I was arguing with someone on NL about the importance of a good high school foundation in preventing black people in the west (America/UK) from doing well in standardized exams and GCSE/A-Levels. My family friends who went to these expensive private schools would not be able to even survive with the math geniuses at all those government colleges in Nigeria. However, the edge they got as a result of their wealth and slightly above intelligence got them to their present position. Yeah they are very rich- most were poor like us, until the interim government of Abdulsalami after abacha died- during this period, I think these people had unlimited access to the coffers in Nigeria and their kids left after primary school for boarding school in the UK. Its just sad that their kids were given so much more opportunities while denying the uneducated masses in Nigeria a similar opportunity. People claim there is something called "karma" but I don't think it actually exists. As I said let me leave my politics behind. |

SEFAGO: I dont know why People like to Diss Southern Public Schools. Not the same public system where my kid sister had the highest standardized scores in Louisiana |
Re: Nairalander(chiogo) Becomes The First Nigerian Valedictorian In Boston, Usa by chiogo(f): 10:12pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
H2O2:Is that meant to be sarcasm? 'cause honey, you're the smart one. SEFAGO:How you gonna steal one of my favorite lines? And you didn't even say it right. SEFAGO:Well, it does say something about quality. Original is always better. C'mon, if Public education started here, you really think we have the worst education compared to those who emulated us? I'm just saying. I don't know about New England being known for prep schools, I can only speak for Massachusetts, which is just a small part of New England. I believe Public schools are the most common. Private and Charter schools are there but there's no proof either of their high quality other than the students pay 30k a year. Heck, they don't even take standardized testing like the MCAS(Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) while for the rest of us, it's a REQUIREMENT to even graduate high school. Of course, they'll take the SAT's but that's with the help of teachers who are continuously prepping them for the D-day. You're right - I am aiming for the big fish. You do the same, no be by typing essays on Nairaland. platinumnk:Wasn't dissing it. My Calc teacher in High School was from LA and he did say the school system down there was poor. Never been there so I dunno. |
Re: Nairalander(chiogo) Becomes The First Nigerian Valedictorian In Boston, Usa by SEFAGO(m): 10:49pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
You're right - I am aiming for the big fish. You do the same, no be by typing essays on Nairaland. I think my time is better spent chasing girls and causing trouble I already know my level, I am an average student and I dont aspire for higher. I just criticize and encourage more academically brilliant people. However, valedictorian at University is a big thing- I would personally create the thread if you make it. Even Phi Beta Kappa is impressive (Very few black people make phi beta kappa). What I want is national/international achievement. How you gonna steal one of my favorite lines? And you didn't even say it right. U like wale too? Weird I thot he wasn't really popular. Yeah I truncated it a bit to fit my purpose. I dont know why People like to Diss Southern Public Schools. Now if this is true that is worthy of a thread. It is likely not true though, especially if she is related to platinumnk hehe
Ok good point. |

And I used to get flogged all the time for not doing my homework so I used to just miss school. Now I am better lol, funny how people could change. |
