Maybe you mistake Hinduism for Buddhism. There's a slight difference between both.The Buddha did not make belief in God a tenet of the religon nor did he say the universe is God.
This is irrelevant anyway to the discussion, my initial argument was that there are sects of Buddhism which now inculcate the God belief especially as practiced in many regions of Japan and China, hence those countries do not practice the original atheistic Buddhism as the OP would have us believe.
