haha I didnt look at your location. Sorry.

Well Nigeria doesnt have the horrid weather condition of England, that's for sure

Beaches, Festivals, it all depends on where you go, really.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by Oracle(m): 7:01pm On Dec 05, 2006
Well, I'm alive in Naija
that for sure is a good thing, that you can live happily and freely in your country

Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by BigB11(m): 8:24pm On Dec 05, 2006
This topic is only necessary if you're relocating to Nigeria. For few days in Nigeria, you have nothing much to worry about. It all depends on your host.

I hope she or he is interesting and has a convivial personality.

FYI: the different between Nigeria and London isn't that much, hence you will easily blend in with-out any issues.

Off the record: I'm sorry to inform you that I wouldn't live in London for free; furthermore, in 15 years time folks will be begging to live in Nigeria.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by Coco29(f): 9:36pm On Dec 05, 2006
i still have not read any thing good about naija cheesy

@Big B1 suga why are you coming up in here flapping about London Negro i was not born here!

now i was born in St Vincent

good points: Beautiful black sand on the main land and beautiful white sand on the islands. Water falls that would take yr breath away. Friendly people means, you will never get lost, because, some one is always willing and able to put you up for the night with out cost.

we have street parties for nine days before Xmas and on the day it self no one eat at their own house basically the front door is left open and any one can help them selves to the food that is put out. i can go on.

Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by BigB11(m): 10:21pm On Dec 05, 2006
Hey Coco29, I wasn't trying to be fresh or anything, it was just a comment from another angle; my intention was to make you comfortable.

Yes, I've been to St Vincent, St Thomas and St John. Beautiful Island countries without any question; St John is still my favorite.
A-lots of Jerk chicken, incredible sea food and crystal clean water at the beach.
The only issue is you will continue to see the same people over and over through out the day; the island countries are very small, there is no privacy.

Back to the topic:

Nigeria is a very beautiful friendly country. Try to stay either in Abuja or Lagos and you will have a nice time; it is also depends on your host.

Good luck,
One love, dread.

Go and see for yourself. Experience is the best teacher.

Something good about Nigeria?, Donzman hails from there, that's better than anything else.

Naija is country where   you can get anything you want without any form of identification. No ID check at  clubs, bars and lounges, No ID  for alcohol. Where people are hospitable. Where you can visit your family or relations without any formal notice.

Where people still eat in a big family table and pray together every night . Naija is place where you  borrow N10,000 from your next door neighbour if you are in a police custody.  Its a place where you are greeted and respected by everyone.  You will love your visit as a first timer. The difference between Naija and  UK is  more infrastructural than behavioral. U going to love it baby. Besides its  a place where you feel financially empowered if  u ve got some foreign currencies in your wallet.

Yeah. May be a visit will dispel any negativity you might still harbor in your subconscious. We don't run around naked and malnourished. And yes the trees are still there but we don't live on them.

Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by mamaput(f): 10:32am On Dec 06, 2006
Its a good place for a child . The sky is the limit.
Then kids have more freedom to move.
Even if the neighbors garden is more fun.
We used to go fishing with only a hook a rope and a can of worms .
Or go to steal mango, ogo-ogo , tangerines.
play with mud . Kill snake. etc.
For a grown up night life is fun you go were the happening is happening.
BUt its the armed robbers spoiling the fun. And the police
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by Jakumo(m): 11:45am On Dec 06, 2006
MamaPut's fond memories of a countryside childhood in Nigeria remind one that the most genuinely approachable and friendly people worldwide are very often to be found in those smaller towns and villages - Places where the pace of life is not so hectic and courtesy isn't considered old-fashioned.

The true beauty of Nigeria's hinterland lies there waiting to be tapped as soon as a safe road network comes into existence. Tourism could be a major cornerstone of the Nigerian economy if the roads could be fixed and electricity made to flow. Till those two basic problems are fixed many who live there will continue to define happiness as looking at Nigeria out the window of a leaving jet-plane.

, in Nigeria ,the people love God,the leaders are indifferent, we have lovely people[nice and caring],fairly good predictable weather[unlike london],, happy people[CONFIRMED anyway], lively weekends, for partying, unlike new york, and wait for this, liberal with traffic laws?
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by otokx(m): 1:39pm On Dec 06, 2006
Port Harcourt is a very beautiful town; there is so much vegetation, the weather presently is cool with no rains and a mild sunshine. The crime rate is not as bad as people paint it; a lot of foreigners actually drive themselves round the city without any police escort. You will enjoy our church services; there are quite a number of entertainment churches in this town. We have a mangroove school where you can go hiking through the jungle and see various vegetation from the swamps to the freshwater then to the savanna kind of area. Not forgetting our numerouse wide expanse of rivers.

What is good about Nigeria?

NOTHING but I can assure you, you'll love it.

We shuffer and shmile. Very happy people. In the midst of abject poverty, disease, suffering and oppresion, we still remain very happy.

You'll be impressed by the spirit.

This is the positive opinion thread, so I don't mean to spoil the mood, but as Coco29 pointed out, armed robbers would be a serious concern for anyone contemplating a visit to Nigeria, especially during the end of year holiday season when all thoughts turn to raising quick cash for the Xmas/new-year partying.  The person who claimed earlier in this thread that Nigeria is comparable to London has GOT to be joking.  Excluding a few rough neighborhoods, London is a very safe city in which to reside, while NO Nigerian city can be described as such by any stretch of the imagination. Furthermore I cannot think of a SINGLE area of London where any street is bordered on both sides with fetid open sewage gutters, or is partially blocked with months-old bungalow-sized mountains of putrid refuse, while conversely I cannot bring to mind a single Nigerian city or town without streets that do feature such a foul landscape.

In cities throughout Nigeria, large gangs of 30 or more machine-gunners routinely take over entire city residential neighborhoods for hours at a time while the police take cover in their barracks and stations till the shooting subsides.  The local wing of the international airport was raided 2 days ago by 50 bandits who first cautioned the nearby police barracks occupants to stay calm and stay indoors while the fire-works lasted.  The cops complied without a whimper while the currency exchange vaults in the airport terminal were emptied of a couple million dollars.

Generally, Nigeria's main highways become absolutely deserted once the sun goes down because the night belongs to the armed gangs who block passage with tree trunks so as to visit primal terror on those who come to a stop there.  Yesterday, the head of Nigeria's paramilitary Mobile Police Force died in a hail of automatic rifle fire on his way to the airport in Abuja, the nation's capital.

While idyllic areas of pristine tropical beauty inhabited by friendly folks do exist in Nigeria, getting to those places can be likened to a tour of Bosnia at the height of its mayhem years.  Great if you are a war-tour aficionado, but with the potential to turn viscerally terrifying in a heart-beat otherwise.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by otokx(m): 6:59pm On Dec 07, 2006
Jakumo your very funny; those things you have described are but a figment of your wicked imagination under the influence of an overdose of squadron dry gin.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by ThiefOfHearts(f): 8:11pm On Dec 07, 2006
I only compared it to London because of the overpopulation of Nigerians there. Might as well be a white Lagos.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by Jakumo(m): 9:34pm On Dec 07, 2006
Otokx I surely do wish I made up all those harsh truths regarding Nigeria's quiescent state of insecurity. If you think my assessment was gloomy, then you may well shed a tear or two if you ever get to read the meticulously detailed and factual internal security reports issued to British expats in Nigeria from the UK High Commission.

I hope you do not intend to dispute the fact that large armed robbery gangs do take over entire residential neighborhoods in most Nigerian cities for extended hours and without any challenge from the police, or that Nigeria's highways are mostly deserted by nightfall due to fear of ambush, or that 3 days ago a large robbery operation took place at the Haj Camp of the Ikeja Airport in Lagos right next to a police barracks, because if you do then you must have chosen to adopt the classic ostrich head-in-the-sand posture regarding your beloved homeland, and for that I truly admire your boundless optimism.

As for me, I am very much aware of the raw reality of life in Nigeria, and will not shy away from disclosing the sordid details to anyone contemplating a visit to Nigeria.   If you'd rather describe Nigeria as a safe and secure tropical paradise and the Hawaii of Africa, then please don't let me dissuade you from that quaint PR effort.  Hopefully a few well-intended upbeat fables about Nigeria will benefit someone, though just who that might be escapes me for now.

Now, where did I leave that bottle of Sapele Wata.    ThiefofHearts I catch your drift now.
Re: Please Tell Me Some Thing Positive About Nigeria by BigB11(m): 10:03pm On Dec 07, 2006
@JAKUMO

But still you didn't have to be that negative about your mother land. Trust me, all countries have bad fruits. I still feel that you should have focused more on nice things rather than bringing out the dirty laundries.

The topic says, Tell me some positive things about Nigeria.

That is the different between Americans and some Nigerians; Americans will never tell you about the crack heads or homeless folks or jobless situation or robbers or getting killed. They will tell you more about timesquare, night clubs, nice restaurant and so on.

If we continue to walk around with negativity, our lovely country will not move forward.

Please, please say something nice about my country, NIGERIA.

May God bless Nigeria
