We have been informed by a long term nairalander, resident in Abuja, NKC, that Interpol and Nigeria Police are currently stopping drivers in Abuja and checking cars for theft. It was confirmed that a Range Rover Sports, Volvo, and Jeep were impounded because they were confirmed to have been stolen in the country the cars were imported from. Checkpoints were located in Area1 of Abuja today. Buyers and sellers in this Auto section are encouraged to continue to make sure that their products are from legitimate sources. Monitor_1 |

I think this is a great news, infact a wonderful news, cos now the real dealers of good vehicles with good records can now sell without having to worry that someone will steal and come and sell at a price that will make good dealers wanna turn bad. |

why Abuja of all places? They will recover a bunch if they do set up check points in Lagos. |

Nigerians are unbelievable. I have a car that is currently being held up in Spain, because two out of the four cars in the container were stolen! A price i have to pay because RO-RO is not allowed from Canada and because Nigerians too criminally minded. These criminal activities affects everyone. It used to be when you meet a foreigner, upon learning your nationality, they will say Oh! you guys are very good soccer players. Now it's simply Ah! you guys are very smart, an euphemism for being a criminal. I don tire for Nija o jare. |

Megadeals: That is what happened to you when you shares container with poeple. I dont do that anymore, i now drive my car to USA and RoRo from there, it is cheaper and faster too. |

arnold2g3:That was a good question, I think they'd make the person(s) pay for the cost of the vehicle in usa including panalties or better still, auction the car and make the person pay up the balance plus criminal charges if hes the culprit else . . . . . . . . |

Igwe.: Sometimes, depending on the value of the rides, they will send them back to the country where they were stolen from, and they will auction it off, to to recover some money back for the insurance company, since the insurance company has already paid the owner of the rides. However, if it is found out that the owner of the ride knew something about, there will be a charge and could be convicted. |

hahhaha, well from what i have learnt, its actually trained naija mopols, with the interpol database on their lappys, plus some oda forces, i guess a mixture of every, vio, mopol,interpol, etc. i dont know if there are whites among them, but i tell u their records are on point. |

nkc: hahahahahahaha. Wait till Nigerian police starts to corrupt the data in the database. Although, the interpol dont have to be white, they cld be black americans. I really think this operation was long overdue and i hope they will do a good job, and let all the thieves know that Nigeria is not a dumping ground for stolen rides. I will like to know what would happen to the people that bought the car and the police now took it from them, what would happen to them, any form of compensation |

I thought we were only talking about checkpoints, but the Nigerian Police/Interpol, came to our Abuja car park located in Gwarimpa on Friday. The chassis numbers of every car in the lot was entered into their laptop to determine whether any of them is stolen. This is a very interesting development. Cheers, J |

Interesting but not surprised. Could it be that they got intel from NL? remembered vividly about a stolen car from yanks or is it canada being advertised on NL for sale and the mandatory VIN check exposed the true histroy of the vehicle. |

Its kinda new to me too, How would you get a stolen car out of the U.S ? I don't know, doesn't one need to submit the correct papers for it to be shipped, I know people ship cars but that car needs to be cleared appropriately then people put <illlegal items inside the car> I've heard of durgs being shipped but a stolen car, Can someone explain to me how this is done ?! |
