The fact that Chevy will make the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) crossover out of its electric hatchback was officially announced back in March, at the same time the brand announced that the original “five-door” would undergo restyling. Both models will enter the assembly line at the Michigan plant in the summer of 2021, although Chevrolet previously said that the hatch would be updated by the end of this year.

And yet, the next serial model of the premium brand belonging to Hyundai is likely to be a “five-door”, but the coupe has been created to demonstrate the development of design. However, it is possible that later the “two-door” will be put on the conveyor.

Genesis became a “premium” in 2015, today it is presented in its native Korea, USA, Australia and others. At the dawn of a career, only sedans were sold under this brand – the G70, G80 and G90. Since then, all “four-doors” have noticeably changed, and in 2020 two crossovers appeared in the range at once – GV80 and GV70. Updating and expanding the lineup helped Genesis noticeably increase sales: for example, 108,286 cars were sold at home in 2020, which is almost twice as much as a year earlier.

New Acura MDX: Larger Interior and No Hybridization

The first images of the fourth-generation mid-size 7-seater Acura MDX crossover appeared on the Web back in the summer of 2019, in October of this year, the novelty debuted as a prototype, and now, finally, the production version with all the accompanying details is presented.

The MDX crossover, like all other Acura models, is designed in America and for America. These cars are assembled in East Liberty (Ohio), the J35 series engines (“aspirated” 3.5 L V6 with a return of 294 hp and 362 Nm) come from the factory in the village of Anna (Ohio), and the gearboxes will come from Tallupuza, Georgia – in the fourth generation MDX received a 10-speed “automatic” instead of the previous 9-speed.

It is gratifying that the Acura brand has retained in the MDX complex, bulky and expensive SH-AWD all-wheel drive system with three clutches and overdrive planetary gears (they allow the rear wheels to spin faster than the front wheels and literally screw the car into a corner). Most MDX owners hardly understand how the SH-AWD unit works, but active safety is definitely better with it than most competitors with their single center coupling.

For thrifty customers, the front-wheel drive version of the MDX will continue to be offered, but the hybrid modification, which has two electric motors on the rear axle instead of the SH-AWD unit, is not announced in the fourth generation of the crossover. But by the end of summer next year, a charged version of the Type-S with a 3.0-liter turbo V6 (360 hp, 480 Nm), which will have SH-AWD all-wheel drive, 21-inch wheels and powerful Brembo brakes by default.

The Nissan Patrol SUV acquired the “hot” version of Nismo back in 2015, this version is intended only for the Middle East. Toyota is preparing to debut a crossover, which will rivals Volkswagen ID.4 and Nissan Ariya

So far, the Japanese company is ready to show only the harbinger of the future “green” novelty, the serial version of the SUV is expected later.

Toyota and Subaru have been cooperating since 2005: then Toyota acquired 9.5% of Fuji Heavy Industries (the former name of Subaru). Subsequently, this stake was gradually increased, now Toyota’s share is 20% (it owns a fifth of Subaru). Japanese companies have jointly developed a new e-TNGA platform: as we reported earlier, this “trolley” will form the basis of six new products, one of which will be the Toyota crossover (it was previously announced for the European market).

Toyota intends to unveil the concept of its new SUV at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show (the exhibition kicks off early next week). The company still does not tell the name of the future novelty, but it is known that the entire line of electric cars was given the name Beyond Zero (translated from English – “beyond zero”) or BZ.

So far, the company has not shown what the “electro crossover” will look like, but only teased with a teaser, which does not fully show the front of the concept. By the way, the LED head optics of the future novelty does not look “futuristic”, so we can assume that this option will remain with the production version. The car will be roughly the size of the RAV4, and its competitors in the European market are Nissan Ariya and Volkswagen ID.4.

Alfa Romeo delays the release of Tonale: the premiere will take place three months later

The company’s management decided that the hybrid installation, which is equipped with a compact crossover, needs to be improved.

Sales of Alfa Romeo vehicles in Europe have been falling over the past few years. So, for the 2019th the brand lost 53.5%, and for the “covid” 2020th – 34.3%. Old world dealers sold only 35,718 copies last year, while in 2017 the figure exceeded 86.8 thousand units. The model range of the Italian brand needs “fresh blood”, its role should be performed by the Tonale crossover, however, apparently, it will still have to wait.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale will be delayed by about three months, according to Automotive News Europe. We remind, it was assumed that the public debut of the serial new crossover of the brand will take place in September this year, and in November on the old world market will begin live sales of the model. If you believe the words of the agency’s source, now the premiere of the new product will take place closer to the end of 2021, and the cars will probably reach dealers only at the beginning of next year.

It is reported that the reason for the delay was the need to finalize the hybrid system, which is equipped with Tonale. The current CEO of the brand, Jean-Phillip Imparato, insisted on this. Now the power plant is awaiting recalibration, which will result in a change in the system indicators.
