MtuMsuper: I get your point, but while Lagos may reflect the extreme wealth disparity of a city like New York, I doubt Kenya is anything like Sweden. Just like Nigeria, you have extreme wealth mixing with extreme poverty. So, your analogy is a false one. 2 Likes |

Eastwalk: Pls, Kenya's GDP per capital (nominal) is below $2,000. Around $1700. That your figure $3304 is GDP per capital (PPP). Nigeria's per capital (PPP) is twice that of Kenya. Our economy (PPP) is ten times their economy. Pls, differentiate the Nominal figures from the PPP figures. They are not anywhere close to Nigeria financially, no matter the measure you use.

TayserMahiri: Oga, i challenged you to cite the Nigerian slums with internet references (aside Makoko). I have been waiting since. Are you telling me that all those hours you spent googling trying to find pictures of Nigerian slums have been futile? Pls try harder. Show me a Nigerian slum with aerial pics showing the vast slum expanse like this Kenyan slum below!

Eastwalk: TayserMahiri: Pls, Nigeria has only one slum, which is Makoko. Agege, Mushin and Shomolu are not slums. No one can give me an aerial view or picture of Agege, Mushin or Shomolu to prove that they are slums. Here is an aerial/territorial view of what a real slum looks like!

Nowenuse:You see, the point am making is that GDP(your fake and questionable one, and others) is a measure of CONSUMPTION and/or PRODUCTION. GDP is not a measure of wealth and / or happiness. Nigeria is happier than S Korea but less materially prosperous. In Nigeria's case its heavily distorted by oil production and a highly exclusive and elitist financial sector based in Lagos. HDI and development Indicators on the other hand measure overall quality of life and wellbeing. You better back up your figures on PPP vs Nominal GDP ,quoting wikipedia will get you a serious ass whooping - not credible, but useful. 1 Like |

Obi1kenobi:All right then jedimaster , i was merely trying to debunk the obscene and lewd line of the Lagos GDP vs kenya/ghana combination, not trying to swing my luminous sword. Lagos GDP, looks like a muscular body builder with huge head, arms and torso ,but the legs of a chicken. This so called big GDP is based on a large financial sector and other related fields, but the average Lagosian has an extremely high cost of living tp bear, and no social services or utilities worth boasting of. Ancient Rome did a good job by the standards of the day in providing water fir its residents, and even attempted urban renewal at a scale Lagos or even any other modern city today would envy. We all have a long way to go. 1 Like |

Eastwalk: TayserMahiri: Look at internet pictures of Mushin and Agege which ignorant people classify as slums. These places are just low income areas. They are not full blown slums like Kibera or Mathare in Nairobi (that attract world NGOs and humanitarian aids). In Mushin and Agege, people (not the govt) build modern appartments and storey building houses with toilet facilities and running tap water. They are not full blown slums. Makoko is the only full blown slum that ever existed in Nigeria.

MtuMsuper: Was even supporting Kenya here, but you're spewing nonsense. If you have different stats, post them here. And the Wikipedia stats are quoted directly from various sources: the IMF, World Bank, and even the bleeping CiA. The links are right there in the Wiki articles. Cook up your own stats and publish if you disagree with those bodies. Don't come here and distort reality just because statistics are inconvenient for you. Don't know what oil production has to do with anything either. For one, we didn't deny your rights to utilize any God-given resources you have. Secondly, Oil if anything has been a curse to us. Nigeria was the fastest developing country on the planet before we discovered oil. Oil made us a lousy bunch of losers and destroyed our competitive confederacy with a lose attachment to the centre into a unitary governance style that allocated money from the centre. Our agricultural and industrial base was gutted as we stupidly tried to run a large country with a large population with less oil money than tiny Qatar or UAE. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TayserMahiri: Hahaha, you have taken to insults because you know that you cannot prove anything. I dared you and still daring you to give me aerial or territorial pictures of Nigerian slums (aside Makoko) which have internet citations! Since you tried but failed to do it, you have gone into your default (factory settings) mode of insults. You will soon auto-destruct if you are not careful. I have observed that a lot of you are just stark jealous and hate-filled souls. You guys loose sleep over Nigeria, hating us and our progress for no just reason. Is it our fault that we are emerging and taking our rightful place as the powerhouse of Africa? If you guys want to challenge us, merge yourselves together and become as big as us. There are a lot of cons we suffer in being a large nation but we also enjoy advantages too. When we suffer the cons you people will go mute but when we start enjoying the benefits, you are always looking for ways to pull us down or rubbish us, claiming that our population gave us the advantage. Just accept the fact that Nigeria is better than you guys in city building and urban lifestyle and it will not kill you. Lagos an urban area of 21 million and there is only 1 full blown slum (Makoko), making less than 1% of people in the city. The slum is even half demolished. That is very great for a developing nation. Even Brazil (Rio de janeiro) with half of Lagos' population has the world's most renowned slum, the same thing with Mumbai (India's largest city). For instance, i would easily admit and applaud the fact that South Africa dominates the entire continent in satelite television (DStv) which has given birth to many other ventures like Africa Magic (which now hosts the biggest movie awards in Africa), Big brother reality TV show (the most watched reality TV in Africa) and many more. If it is Kenyans and SAns, many of them would rather die than accept the fact that Nigeria dominates the Entertainment, Fashion, Religious, Banking and Financial industries of Africa. Envy and hate-filled lots! 2 Likes |

TayserMahiri: Since you cannot, let me help you. See what the lowest income areas of Lagos (Nigerian cities on average) look like (which ignorant people like you call slums). Look well, you can see that some of them can even afford Satelite televison and Air conditioners. You can see the tarred roads at their doorsteps. They all have toilet facilities and live in concrete built houses with some form of sanitation. Nigerians don't live in full blown slums. It is not our culture and the govts will never allow it. That is why Makoko people had to build theirs on water and Makoko was originally a small fishing community of few fishermen and never started as a slum!

There are no tribal clashes in Nigeria only disagreements between individuals that the media reports as tribal. Ethnocentrism in Nigeria does not go past nepotism and the frequent stereo typing , a Yorubas guy will never attack an Igbo over being Igbo and an Igbo knows he's got money at stake by attacking a Northerner over his tribe. Ethnic clashes when investigated always end up being disagreements between people that has nothing to do with ethnicity. Nigerians are not as tribalistic as South Africans and or Kenyans.
