Botswana and Namibia are extremely small countries of 2 million people each, with large land masses of abundant rescources, just like the population of Port harcourt only, covering the whole Nigerian landmass with all the natural rescources therein. They should even be comparing 1st world nations by now considering their tiny population and abundant rescources, so i really don't consider them succesful at all.

Comparing SA to Nigeria is quite unfair because SA is over 100 yrs older than Nigeria. They started building their country at the same time with countries like Brazil, Argentina, Chile e.t.c how can we ever equal them in infrastructural development? However, we equal them in human development and economic growth.

Kenya is not such a bad country, at least for a fairly populous black african country, they are not doing that bad. People like you feel Kenya is better than Nigeria probably because you don't understand the in and out of Kenya.
I myself used to think that Kenya is better than Nigeria, not until i discovered how they work. What Kenya does is that they go for the very best of quality infrastructure, human development and services only in a few selected parts of their cities/country/population and they leave a huge chunk of the remainder to rot away (to their fate). So by the time you end up seeing only their few developed parts, you conclude that they are better than Nigeria (which is not really true).
The way Nigeria works on the other hand is different! Our system more or less believes in even development of our people and even spread of rescources. We don't set world standards for only a tiny portion of our population/cities/states and abandon the rest to utter despondence or neglect. This is why we have a far higher percentage of urbanized, more socialized, enterprising, exposed and industrious population than Kenya or even East Africa combined (if not for core-northern Nigerians dragging us backwards).

True, Botswana and Namibia have a way smaller population with diamonds, but we can learn from their growth and stable political structure. If you don't want to compare to countries older why don't we look at East Asian Countries that were in the same position as Nigeria and far surpass us. Abeg, which development is being spread out in Nigeria? All I see is sub par infrastructure with only a few good ones in the rich areas. Let's face us, many African countries are passing us. My friend just told me he gets more hours of stable electricity in Benin than he does in Nigeria.

First of all, i'd like to correct you, not the whole Northern half of Nigeria is backwards, the middle parts of the North (where i am from) are almost as progressive as Southernerns ok? The problem is the far or core-northernerns who are overwhemingly muslim.

Look at the reason why i am not contradicting myself.

Core-northern Nigeria has equal opportunities with every other place in the country. Infact they dominate Nigeria's politics and have produced more political leaders.
The problem with them is the kind of islam they practice, like the kind you find in Somalia. The kind of islam that makes a large part of their population unprogressive.

Core northnerns have government schools as much as the south, but they really don't have that educational zeal. They cherish islamic education more than western education. They believe that women should still be kept in purdah (indoors). They believe in Sharia law. They believe in having many children (probably so that muslims will outnumber christians).

Core northerners even have more states than others, they receive large monthly allocations from the federal govt as well as other states. The problem is their priority. So they are not neglected in any way, they only have a culture that is not very much wealth generating.

You indeed have countries in which several codes are in operation. It is called Federalism which Nigeria practices although it is not popular in Africa. Different parts of a country might have cultural differences and this might neccesitate the creation of another tier of government like State governments or regional governments. This governments have the right to make laws in some areas that concern their territory without the interference of the Central government. That is where the power of some Northern States to adopt shariah comes from. However, there are areas in which only the Federal Government can make laws eg marital,police affairs and laws dealing with corruption.
So uniform code is not a prerequisite for the formation of a country.

Abeg, don't try and put the blame on us. In most of Nigeria's history Northerners have ruled the government. They neglected themselves and Northerners are too myopic to see this. Your post shows you don't understand Nigeria's problem.The north of Nigeria is like somalia which will always reject any help or program to help it grow due to religious and traditional pride.Now,one of the greatest injustice the British did in Africa was to amalgamate these northerners with the southerners who have little in common with them.It didn't end there,the british handed over political power in Nigeria with the violent north and had helped them maintain it since them.That's what nowenuse meant.It's like kenya being yoked with somalia.It's an uneven yoke holding the country back.

Why did your fathers never question or pressured the British on your independence from the north?
Go and study the history of Indian independence and partitionning and see how Pakistani founding fathers did all they could to make sure Britain never granted independence to a united India. They made it clear to the British that they (the muslims) can never live in a united India with Hindu majority and the british accepted and divided India before independence.

The Constitution states some laws which are binding on all of Nigeria and also provides for areas where the states can make their individual laws. For instance, the Nigerian Constitution provides for the terms of office of all Nigerian elected officials whether north or south which is uniformly four years. It is binding on all states.
