Introduction
Ishoken (Tajimi city pottery design and technical center) was established in October 1959, transferring operations from the Minoyaki Overglaze and Enamel Decoration Research Center.

Since the first students mastering the Ishoken training program graduated in March 1960, more than 800 young people have graduated and have been active as ceramists or designers.

Tajimi city forms the greatest ceramics producing district in Japan with neighboring cities, Toki and Mizunami. This district is called MINO and the pottery produced in this area is called "Minoyaki" or MINO ware, which ranges from tableware, tiles for architects, to tea bowls for tea ceremonies, which are represented by "Sino Ware" and"Oribe Ware". The history of the"Minoyaki" goes back in time to the beginning of the 7th century when "Sue Ware" was first made. Since then the Mino pottery industry has continued over 1300 years to the present day.

Course Description
Ishoken is a Japanese program comprising of three courses.

They comprise of Design course, Craft course and Ceramics Lab.
Design course and Craft course are two-year program. Ceramics lab is a one-year program equivalent to a postgraduate course. This course is intended for people that have already acquired basic technology related to making ceramics.

Ceramics Lab [including International Student Admissions]

In this course students will work for one year with emphasis on researching and creating works based on the themes they have chosen for themselves with the instructor's approval. In addition, they will get the skills to plan their own exhibitions and to launch their own website, both of which are the abilities required for transmitting their ideas and acting as a freelance after graduation.

This course is for the students who are prepared to think about not only producing art works but also engaging in society through works, which is the activity expected for a professional.

Eligibility
Individuals within the age bracket of 20 to 40
Person who have already finished a basic study of making ceramics, or met the equivalent qualifications.

A person who will continue to work in the pottery making even after graduation
The scholarship is for individuals having non-Japanese nationality. However, Japanese citizens would live overseas may also apply.
Individuals must demonstrate through a well-articulated proposal the ability to work and carry out research in the field of ceramics.
