Thanks for all the contributions on this topic, It has been very rewarding and expository. I have enough information now to help me make up my mind on the way forward. And for the cynics who thinks its all hoax, you can make cool money here in Nigeria (legitimately) if you know your onions. |

If you know that you can make cool money legitimately in Nigeria, why bother fielding questions from people on the viability of moving abroad to eke out a living? You obviously should know the answer to that, and besides, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. |

Lagbaja, in a more realistic view, there are two ways to look at going abroad. If you are planning to go to places like Australia or Canada, on a migrant visa, then go for it. These two countries need more people as they are under-populated. They have very good economies and you are sure to get all the govt support you need for you and your family. There are jobs and business opportunities. Although you pay tax, you can easily break through and you children will live a quality life. This two countries also have very excellent family support program. Imagine in Australia, public health is tax-funded, so you don't pay a cent to visit the hospital, yes as many times as you like. if you have a baby, you are paid $5,000 tax free. There is 50% rebate on child care cost and children's school, and a host of other benefits for working families. The tax you pay is spent on good roads, hospitals, parks, resorts, transport and other amenities that you will then access for nearly free. However if your plan is for the US or UK, please sit back in Nigeria and continue to enjoy your 15milla per annum tax free. but whatever you decide, whether to go out or stay, don't close or sell your business. tensazangetsu20: Lolz my dad return to 9ja after schooling in the UK in the 60s. Before he passed on he told me he regret coming back because things became tough for him. This was before buhari oo He got a little relief because he was able to get pension for the little time he worked while in the UK. They still had his records and paid him his dues several decades later There needs to be a revolution before Nigeria can work the way we want it to work. 1 Like |

Sadly another probable losing bet on Nigeria. Hope he had the chance to do a more rational analysis. Of course this was around 2008 when the USA was in economic crisis and crude oil was probably trading at high price and Nigerians were exulting in their fake economy. 🙄 But wait even me I fell for it so wetin I dey yarn. In 2008 the naira was around 50 per $1. And of course he wasn't making anywhere close to 15 million a year. Who dash monkey? Lagbaja take off your mask and give us an update abeg 😆 Good Luck to Nigeria! 1 Like |

IbeOkehie: He is still active. I checked his profile. Just in case OP thinks anyone, at least myself, is here to mock him; that is not true. His experiences will go a long way to reassure or caution or inform recent migrants whether a decision to return Nigeria is the best. At least, others like EgunMogajji and Qc1 have done theirs. We are here to learn. 2 Likes |
