Whatever made them increase the price of data was greatly contributed by MTN and probably Airtel. Why?

According to recent subscription statistics released by NCC, MTN has been losing data subscribers at a constant rate while Glo has been gaining massive new data subscribers on their network beceof their extra cheap data. MTN, Airtel and Etisalat and the majority of the smaller ISPs could not compete and therefore had to file complaints to NCC, lobbying them to initiate this new directive.

If you've noticed, both MTN and Airtel have been strongly informing their customers of the new NCC directive but Glo has refused to comment as they are not happy with this directive. why?

This is why. Glo's strong point has always been their cheap data. They even call themselves the 'grandmasters of data'. But unfortunately the quality of their network cannot compete with that of MTN. But still Nigerians have preferred Glo's cheap data with their fair network quality. If this new data floor price (minimum price every network must sell data) is implemented by NCC, Glo will lose hugely. Just take a scenario where both MTN and Glo are both offering #1000 for 1gb, more people will opt for MTN because of their quality network and Glo will wither in the long run.

What NCC wants in essence is 'completion in quality of network' and not completion for cheapest data. They want to level the playing field. Though, this was influenced by MTN and others.

On my part, I completely disagree with this move on NCC's part. They should leave the competition to the network operators. Afterall not everyone will use Glo as some people prefer quality over quantity and others prefer quantity over quality. It's a choice Nigerians should make not NCC. That's why it's called 'competition'.

Honestly this people are taking us for a fool. The implication of this is that if you want a cheaper data rate, you must abandon your existing line be it glo, mtn, zain etc and buy the new line that offer cheaper data rate.

What a day light robbery. The essence of competition is to reduce price and increse service quality just as we are experiencing, any policy that wont build on this is anti social and its totally condemned.

Anyway, its left for our lawmakers to kick against.

NCC is just useless.

Who is heading that commission?

For crying out loud, this is a free market system.

Competitions are bound to be the other of the day.

If u cannot compete favourably and squarely with your competitors, u close market.

NCC has not told us their gains in this fraudulent schemes.

So, for few individuals that will make their own money, the government will have to make all of us suffer?

How can I pay 3k for i.5gig?

3k can get me 5gig @least.

Morethan 200% increase, how much will d new entrants pay u as tax?

Didn't they know about the market system b4 dey ventured into business?

What guarantee do they have that they can still get customers? When they are partly the reason why majority are suffering?

Who are the stup!d new entrants? If you can't stand the competition then bloody leave!
They (ENTRANTS) dont even exist... This is to inform you how 'sluggish thinking' our leaders are. What I guess they trying to do is to raise more money through tariff, tax and the likes just like the way UK and their counterparts are doing, in effort to survive / get out of this recession forgetting the fact that they have not shown us what they are using the money they claim to have recouped so far. #DRYBRAINSCLUELESSTECHNOCRATS

The NCC official who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday said the regulator came up with the new data regime after some new entrants into the market complained that there was no way they could break even if they operated on same data regime with the likes of MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel, Daily Trust reports.
the above statement is a typical lie.

apart from these above telecommunications, WHAT ARE THE OTHER ONES.

how can MTN allow their competitors to grow since they are here to make money and suffer people.

Too many stories to this issue.
First was the story that our data was the cheapest in West Africa telecom provider and now this!
Even at that, it's still not tenable, none of these excuses is tenable or should be accepted. This attempt is a calculated one to silent the voices of the youth, in our campaign, compliant and protest against bad governance, leadership and policies like this.

This was one of my reasons that I'm challenging the youth of this nation to stand and let's form a united front against policies, government targeted to weaken the youth or silence us and not support or propose that another seventy something years old retarded confirmed thieves to govern us again.
Enough of all these people .Ask yourself,"how old was Gowon when he became the head of state"?
"How old was IBB when he ruled this nation through military coup"? What's the average age of these men that once ruled this country? Please check your age.
Wake up, Nigerian Youth! Our time is now.

NCC this is not how to do it, unless you have stakes in one of these small telecom coys. This regulation is now to the detriment of consumers who have to first invest in the hardware of these small coys in order to switch to their data plan. They should have reduced their tariffs to gain ground in the market.

This is an insensitive abuse of power.

What exactly is the position of the National Assembly, especially the House of Representative in this matter? If they are truly representing the people of Nigeria then they should wade into this matter and make their views known!
