Oluwo of Iwo: Judiciary, traditional institution test might as court issues fresh warrant of arrest on Iwo monarch
In what appears a symbolic battle of supremacy and test of might between the judiciary and traditional political institution, Magistrate Olusola Aluko of the Osun State judiciary, on Wednesday issued a fresh bench warrant for the arrest of Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurasheed Akanbi over what he called the monarch’s disrespect to the judiciary.

The magistrate is hearing a case instituted by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Osun State, Oba Kadiri Adeoye challenging the integrity of the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurasheed Akanbi to occupy his exalted seat.

Specifically, Oluwo of Iwo Oke is accusing the Oluwo of Iwo land of lacking in moral to occupy his seat having been jailed serially outside jurisdiction and for his purported engagement in wht he called Yahoo Yahoo business (fraud).

The magistrate court presided over by Mr Aluko had summoned the monarch to appear before him but he refused, saying the warrant of arrest amounted to disrespect for traditional institution.

The failure by the monarch to appear before the court compelled the trial magistrate in the case to issue a warrant of arrest against the monarch.

But the monarch, Oba Abdurasheed Akanbi vowed that he would not appear before the magistrate while a respected member of the inner bar, Mr Yusuf Ali (SAN) had described the warrant of arrest as a joke taken too far.

The purported outburst of the SAN had generated a lot of controversy in the legal community.
