Well, I used to think it was not possible until 2 years ago when I got married.. One of my wife uncle who couldn't make it to the wedding at Yenagoa called and told her to send her account number. Two days after he sent 50k but 20 mins after the alert came in, a debit alert followed and the 50k disappeared even before she could call the uncle to say thank you. She called the uncle instantly to explained what happened and he apologized saying an emergency came up and he needed the money back.. Lol.. That he was going to send it the following week.. The following week came with no alert.... And friends, the rest is history.

Only very few people can actually be honest enough to acknowledge an error in transfer and do the needful by sending the money back to the sender. Unfortunately, majority of Nigerians are opportunists and do not fall into the category of honest people.

Over 600k was sent to my bank account recently. I waited for a day for the sender to call me but I didn't receive any call. I had to go to the bank to call for investigation. I wrote a letter to that effect as I wasn't expecting any transfer from anyone. They did investigation on my application only to fund out that it was my company that sent the money to my account in error.
I did the needful of course.

If it wasn't my company, I still would have done the needful.

My honesy and integrity does not cost a thing.

But they can freeze the money there, till it is resolved. Had same issues when I was purchasing a car, I latter found out that the car was far less of what I bargained with Him for, and I had made the transfer.
My bank advised me to write and they confirmed the transaction, and the guy could not make wildrawals though the money was still in his account. The matter was latter resolved and I got my cash back.
But it took like two months though

Exactly, the beneficiary would either give his/her consent for the fund to be reversed or fund repatriated process to be triggered at the instance of your Bank if it can be established that the person actually scammed you.

This is latter is however subject to availability of fund in the fraudster's account and proper KYC in place to track him/her should the account is not funded when the repatriation proceeding is ongoing.

We need to know the full story. You said you paid and she failed to deliver, failed to deliver what? Does this person have an address, or is she just a random female you met on Nairaland?

Banks don't just reverse transactions. You have to demonstrate that you have actually been defrauded, calling someone a fraudster will not suffice.

Genuine money 50k entered his account... The went to withdraw..... He couldn't... He went to the bank.... . The bank told him that he is even owing them 50k....any further money that enters the account will be deducted.
Checking his balance... It was - 50k. So the has to get money to pay up.

The money can never be reversed anywhere in the world . He willingly sent the money to the right account but goods failed to deliver . That's not the problem of the bank rather the mechanism of trade and trust . PayPal and Ebay covered this by with old in the unward transfer of funds to buyer for some days after the expected day of delivery has reached and passed

That is different

The bank would not reverse the money just because you want them to. It doesn't work like that... you willingly sent the money, there is no proof or reason for them to believe it was erroneous, except your word of mouth: which sadly isn't enough.

If the mistake was from their end, they can reverse same day or go as far as placing a restriction on that account_ anything to get the money back. Which is a whole lot easier if it's same bank.

'but now the mistake is from you, you would have to back it up with a police report and court order.
Go to your bank, they'll put you through.

If I was thinking vilian concerned I would just reply amd say he he owes me and he paid what he owed infact I still have ballance so what nxt ?

Why not tell us th truth. It's almost impossible to sen money to a wrong account. For this to happen you have to mistakenly enter an account number which (coincidentally) belongs to someone with the same name as the real person you intend to send the money to. Even when you do ATM transfer the name of the account also comes up after entering the account number. At this point you can know if you are sending to the right person or not. Please say the truth and get the help you need.

Just inform your bank especially your account officer and after investigation is carried out and the receiver credit his or her account the reversal would be made

When humans were not so criminal minded, banking was stress free. Now, you can reverse money, even with the recipients authorization and he would come back to say he never said such.
It has happened.
There are banks where reversal triggers 'alarm' in their internal control unit. You don't just go about reversing funds...

Hmmmm! That is going to be a bit difficult. Sometime in 2009, I credited a fraudster's account. By the time I discovered (the same day). I hurriedly went back to the bank, threatening fire and brimstone. The branch manager came out. They checked the receiving account and discovered that some amount has been withdrawn from the money I paid in. According to the manager, it would have been possible to do a reversal if the exact amount was still intact. I left the banking hall dejected. The fraudster's account was actually placed on no-debit-order.

not true at all. if the transfered fund has reflected in the beneficiary's account, no reversal can be made. But if the transfered fund has not been delivered yet due to bank's network issue etc. You can contact your own bank where the transfer was initiated and make complain. It may be reversed that way.

@OP If the beneficiary has confirmed receiving the money, your money cant come back to you

It's possible with the cooperationn of the person,firstly you have to report to your own bank his account can be freezed for the time being.i had similar issue in August the money was paid in December. first bank to Zenith bank.M y case I gave some on wrong account number. also you don't sit at home you have to also be following up the customer care people to make sure they send the complain to the head office.

It is possible to transfer fund into a wrong account especially if the mode of transfer is via mobile banking platform

Your are contradicting yourself!

Did you send to a WRONG account number or you sent to the right number but the person refused to deliver?

There is technically and legally nothing the bank can do on its own because thier system did not do anything wrong.

You would need to resolve it directly with the person or contact the police.

Contacting the bank directly at this stage changes nothing because they cannot reverse funds from a customers account when there was no error on their part in carrying out the transfer

You may still get your money back. The stress and expenses will be like tying up a whole chicken on a hook to catch a fish.
