if Africans can afford KFC, why not McDonald's

l used to think, the reason why kfc and co weren't in Africa is because we ain't that rich enough to have it here

but these days, i have seen KFC pictures in Lagos, Angola, Zimbabwe

so why not mcdonalds

but I heard the KFC in Lagos is not as good as the one in the west

When I taste more, I'll let you guys know wink

I heard McDonalds Nigerian franchise rights has been bought some years back.

Option 1
McDonalds may not operate in Nigeria I think because McDonald's business model is different and based on McDonalds Inc head quarters owning the Land on which each McDonald's Eatery worldwide is sited.

This might investors uneasy because of Nigerian's Government Land Use act which does not enable You own land but only lease it for 99 years from the government and an individual's land can be collected at will and by choice of the state governor or president or federal government in the name of over riding government interest and compensation for the land may be paid which may be below landowner's perceived land marketvalue, compensation for the land might not be paid to the land owner or the landowner's money diverted, shortchanged or cut or split before it get's to the landowner, and some landowners may have economic, emotional and sentimental value to their land and would not like the fact that their land can be taken by a government official in the name of government use at will

Also some government officials use and hide under the land use act in Nigeria to forcibly take and steal other people's land

Secondly the fluctuating Real Estate Bubble and speculativel land and property appreciation without a low interest generally available mortgage system and low middle class purchasing power will affirm the Belief that Nigerian real estate land and property appreciates not because of a booming economy or a buoyant middle-class but because Nigerian Elite, Government officials, Business people, Contractors,Nigerians abroad, Fraudsters don't have so much options to store and invest their legal or illegal money since there is little economic activity in Nigeria so real estate offers one of the few only available money parking investment options in Nigeria

Which is the reason for many estates in Lagos and abuja

And the risk of a real estate economic bubble prize crash if a perceived Real Estate ponzi Chain falls under its own weight because of the continuous land speculation

So McDonalds headquarters would not find their real estate ownership business plan suitable in Nigeria because of the Land use act which government officials can use to collect Your land and secondly the speculative hyper inflative real estate price bubble in Nigeria fueled and caused by little available investment options for legal and illegal money in the possesssion by government officials, politicians, contractors, government jobbers, businesspeople, corporate executives, managers, Nigerians abroad

And no real economic activity, no real working middle class, no readily available low Interest house loans to the masses

Just a way of parking idle or fraudulently obtained money abd even honest money and the Scheme can collapse anytime in the e future

McDonald's investors see this.....that high property prices in Nigeria is a mirage and when the wind blows, prices can crash

- Option Two
could be a government restriction to help indigenous fastfood companies to grow because McDonald's worldwide fame will eclipse and overshadow most other indigenous fast food companies and McDonalds will generate so much cash at the expense of local fast foods

You can't open up your major economic cashcows to foreign interests who may take so much money out of Your Country

Option 3
could be The McDonald's franchise cost and requirements may be too high or too demanding or too risky for a Nigerian investor to speculate or attempt establishing a McDonalds franchise in Nigeria
